How long are you going for? Andermatt’s decent (usually make it there once or twice a year) but not sure it will keep you occupied for a week. There are quite a few other places within easy reach.

Only for four days - that’s the longest I can get away with these days.

From what I’ve been reading I think they’ve linked it up better with sedrun this year? Hopefully should be enough to keep us busy.

Also, doing the train rather than car so not sure how easy it would be to get to other resorts…

Mt Tremblant and Killington aren’t too far are they?

I’ve not skied there but my sister has. Other option is fly to Calgary and ski at Lake Louise which is fucking amazing

Banff is utterly gorgeous. Stayed there but drove to board at Lake Louise each day as the snow wasn’t great anywhere. Typical, managed to persuade my mates to go to Canada instead of Europe for a change and they have one of the worst years for snow in history, meanwhile Chamonix got totally dumped on! Staff in shops and lift stations were all apologising for the bad snow!

Banff is fucking amazing. Been there in the winter to ski, and also with work in the summer and it’s stunning. Nice little beer scene there and some good restaurants.

Annoying, I’ve only been there JUST after ski season (literally the weekend after it closed), but can confirm it is absolutely beautiful. Other than Yosemite, probably the most visually appealing place I’ve ever been to.

would love to go there in winter one day.

One day we were at Lake Louise it dropped to -30 and they shut the resort. It was around -20 at the top most days and my dad was getting frostbite marks on his face :grimacing:

But the runs, powder, and lifts are so so much better than europe IMO. Also fewer ski twats

Oof. My old boss was skiing somewhere in Alberta a few years ago and it got as low as -50. Didn’t manage to get on the slopes once during the entire week. Gutted.

Got down to lower than -20 (up top) on a couple of days when I was in Davos last January (insane amounts of snow). Was so cold my face was freezing on the lifts and I couldn’t move my jaw properly. Easily the coldest trip I’ve been on.

There was no powder the year I went (despite me selling it to my mates saying there’s always tons of the stuff!) so we just spent the time hacking up and down the pistes. We did nearly get booted off the slopes by the ski patrol at one stage for going too fast, I love the speed me!

I did some U.K. snowboarding this year. Northumberland have a bit of a slope in a field and it’s not very big but it’s a cool thing to do. I’d like to go up to yad moss and maybe Scotland. I went to an outdoor ski slope that was covered in real snow too and it was really fun.

I’d like to live the sun snow and suspicious parents sort of life for a week if anybody else does?

Didn’t realise that. Sounds good.

Only have the first weekend in January confirmed as some mates are flying to Geneva, but usually try to get at least a day every second weekend. If I can drag myself out of bed to get the train.

Alpine skiing season is here! :skier: :tada:

That Marcel Hirscher, pretty good eh?

Feels likeit’ll be another season with him and Shiffrin dominating slalom this year.

Ahh, hadn’t seen this thread. Ski jumping season started this weekend with no Polish or Norwegian jumpers on the podium (I’m primarily Team Japan and Team Slovenia, but will generally settle for anyone who isn’t Team Poland or Team Norway) so RESULT.

Yeah below minus 15 is where it really starts to be unpleasant. Coldest I was out and about in was minus 25,Can’t imagine how it can be any colder than that tbh, the air just feels dead.
