Thought I’d get this in early before the usual rush.
Anyone off anywhere? New gear?
I’m off to Laax in March. Anyone been? Anyone know how to pronounce Laax?

been some chat about chamonix in february for some snowboarding/skiing.
niiice. Love Chamonix. Proper town rather than your standard identikit French 70s architectural nightmare.
i’ve not been in about 10 years and i’ve got friends who live/work there, not sure why its taken me so fucking long to get back over there. some cracking wee bars and restaurants.
thewarn, do you have a hot chocolate once you have finished ripping the slopes a new one?
+1 for Chamonix, even if the best slopes are a bit of a drive out of town. Apparently the wealthiest department outside of Paris, so I’m told.
Don’t know if they’re still doing it, but they used to have a week long music festival out there in peak season. Caught Zombie Zombie and a bunch of others a couple of years back.
No, I have BEER!!!
(I’ll then go and lie on my hotel bed, eating chocolate croissants, and maybe have a nap).

I had my last weekend of the season there in April. Really nice, big area and seems more Austrian than Swiss in terms of apres-ski. It was beautiful when I went but a lot of the area is on a fairly exposed plateau so I imagine it doesn’t take a lot of wind to close big parts of it.
CycloCross innit.
oh, and it’s pronounced Flims (as in flimsy) - Lachs (as in almost a Scottish body of water.
Sounds promising, cheers!
Am actually staying in Flims I think.
Chamonix - yes to town, no to skiing, unless you are literally wanting to jump off cliffs.much better place in summer than winter
will do harru official french alpine resort recommendations top 10 soon.
Grands montets with lots of snow is great for boarding, and if course vallee blanche is well worth doing once at least. But the little areas are really spread out and most aren’t that great. Perfect for a long weekend/mini-break though, which is what I do these days.
