I’ve got a stay for work across the two cities over the weekend so the following recommendations are needed, please! I’ve been to Gloucester for an evening before but tips are definitely appreciated.
Decent places in both cities for dinner on a budget (allowed to claim up to £22)
Any decent bars in both cities that are worth a visit
Anywhere in Gloucester that will be showing the boxing on Saturday night
Things to do on Sunday late morning/early afternoon in Gloucester
Don’t know much about Gloucester, but in Worcester I’d definitely recommend Oil Basin for decent beers, it also does really great pizzas upstairs which is the only option I can think of to meet your budget. If you’re willing to pay a little extra then Maneki Ramen or Anatolian are the best places to go.
The Cardinal’s Hat on Friar Street is worth a visit if you want to go to a proper old pub, on the same street there’s also Heroes which usually has a good atmosphere and is in a mad old Tudor building. Retroids is also quite close by which is an arcade bar though I haven’t been since they moved to a bigger, fancier location.
As @chuff says Pizza by Vinnie upstairs at Oil Basin is great, veggie & vegan highly recommend the parmigiana.
Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch options
Hash, popular place so likely a queue
Jnctn, right by the station (in the week do breaky& a drink for £10 before 10am)
Good Roots, loads of outside space another popular one but they run a virtual queue
Waylands Yard
Another lunch option is a stall at Angel Place markets (by Boston Tea Party) does toasties which are great and filling called Greedy Pete’s which will be on til 3pm
Coffee
Francini cafe de Colombia
Method
Dinner
Maneki Ramen, can get a bowl for £15
Burger Shop which is next door to Maneki
King Charles, another old pub and does pies and standard pub food with most things under £20
Smokin Brads, a pop up at Firefly (best bar) doing burgers
Might be able to get a main and side at one of the many good Thai options for £20, Thai on 7evern, Thai Gallery and Siam Smile
Bars
Firefly, not as central as everything else but the best range of beer going and a good size
Tonic, craft beer and cocktails. Cocktails are the standout
Hop Lords, more of a bottle shop but has 6 taps and plays decent music. There’s a pizza by the slice shop upstairs that you can take stuff between the two (pizza slice have got pricey though)
TripleB is next door to Oil Basin if you like Belgian beer, both have outside seating
Copper beech taproom, fairly new night have a popup kitchen on but not seen anything for the weekend
Lamb and Flag or the Dragon Inn are traditional pubs for cask offering. Dragon normally does classic sweaty £3 bap for cheap eats.
Gang, the pizza recommendation so refreshing to have a pizza because you want the veg on it and to not be limited by the fact it’s got meat on it as well
Went a couple of weeks ago with a mate who used to live there.
Already been mostly mentioned but:
Cardinals hat is a great old fashioned pub
Triple b Belgian place is brilliant, good authentic cheese plates too!
Copper beach and arch rivals were two nice taprooms, both pretty central
Firefly had some good beer wanker beers but was pretty deserted
Oil basin wasn’t bad either
