hahahah

I’m expected to get up and come in here everyday AND THEN do work. I can’t (be bothered to) tell you how much it irks me.

Went to a session where we were invited to give feedback on general work stuff. Gave some feedback. Got hauled in front of my manager to explain (and essentially get a bollocking for) feedback.

There is someone here who sneezes upwards of 20 times a day (I have counted). They sound like a vicious yappy dog and come out of nowhere. Then they blow their nose HARD. HOOOOOONK. About 3-4 times. We carry on with things obviously, even if we are startled and have difficulty speaking on the phone. The worst thing is if we do as much as clear our throat, she gives evil looks at the person and sometimes tuts quite openly.

People who expect web developers to work to deadlines don’t understand how software development works

I do, but when you’re given unsolicited concrete promises by web developers that x product will be ready by x date, and you plan a lot of shit around it, it IRKS ME.

(btw this is why I don’t like working with developers that outsource the majority of their work to India, because its the same thing every damn time).

I have to say, your manager getting in @elthamsmateowen to advise on how best to fully irk you was the best money they spent.

oh thats different then - we get a lot of stuff from the account managers when they are like

‘how like will this take?’

and we are liek ‘dunno - depends - about 2 - 3 weeks?’

and then are liek ‘we’ve said it’ll be ready in a week, is that ok?’

and we are like ‘err, no, not really!’

and theey are all ‘WE BLIVE IN YOU!!!’

and we are liek ’ :open_mouth:

oh well fuck them then. we never make concrete promises about deadlines because we actually know what we’re doing. thankfully we have rational superiors who understand that it’ll be ready when it’s ready and we’re working as fast and hard as is reasonable in order to guarantee a solid product.

If the account managers make promises on your behalf without consulting you then they can also fuck off.

Everyone just works in mid level digital project management jobs now, don’t they?

  • being called by my manager before I even get to work so he could ask questions about servers and backups that I don’t know the answer to, and asking me to ask someone else to get the answers so I can relay that back to him, and then once I do all this my manager just emails the person who knows the answers anyway. and then asks a load more questions afterwards that he could have asked in the first place.

  • building a website, demoing it to everyone, getting them to test it, check it’s OK and then wait until the week before going live to raise a new requirement that is absolutely essential and we can’t go live without, which is in reality a nice to have, but we have to have several emails/meetings to discuss it anyway. and will still end up putting it in.

  • the fact I can’t touch anything without getting an electric shock. got two from a wall and about 10 from touching my desk or laptop.
