We used to have really strict data protection policies that meant pens were not totally banned but not freely available (to stop the data escaping). I was in my job for about 6 months before I got hold of a pen. The only pens we can get are company branded clicky biros. There is still a shortage and pen theft is widespread

Shit! Are you left-handed? I buy those pens because they’re generally good for avoiding smudging (though I have to use a biro and a protective piece of paper if I’m writing on anything glossy like a birthday card).

Favour gel pens myself. One in black for signatures and notes, one in red for correcting people’s work.

Find writing done in biro looks a bit cheap, tbh. Only use biro for birthday cards as it doesn’t smudge as easily.

Use it with pride, Steved.

And even the name fountain pen sounds sexy. It’s like something from the Song of Solomon: “your pen is like a fountain from the pools of Gilead” (or something)

Want to tell him that’s not what apathetic means but it sounds like he’s been through enough.

I want to see what he wrote! Did he draw a cock and balls?

Wow, didn’t spot that.

You engineers are weird.

The childcare students and lecturers I work with all have those pens that you can rub out.

I have 1 pen. It came in a pack of 2 but someone stole the other 1.

I chew all my pens, definitely stops others stealing them.

I like a nice rollerball.

I’m using one of those RIGHT NOW balonz.

Wouldn’t dream of using anything else. I especially like it when you get birthday cards sent round the office which are on silk card stock, or similar, and you write on them and there’s no way it’s drying before the next person has to sign it and it smears everywhere!

Reserve that for the people I don’t like. Which is most of them.

Since changing jobs a few years back I am totally out of the card signing game. One of the great perks.
