Spoonโ€™s a good shout

Was testing some songs at the gym today and the ones that got me going the most were Flutes by Hot Chip and Ray of Light by Madonna and sSurf Solar by Fuck Buttons

Various DJ mixes, often just new ones I download to give a go while at the gym.

Stuff like the 2manyDJs โ€˜Most of the Remixesโ€ฆโ€™ mix would be ones I return to for workouts.

Greatest hits of ash is a regular go-to, with some stuff pruned out where I cbf

All sorts really, but Outkast - Stankonia Iโ€™d say was my absolute go to. Faff around with the settings or whatever for the minute intro, then when Gasoline Dreams hits, youโ€™re away.

Compilation of sprawling repetitive stuff, mostly electronic and occasional very down-tempo stuff. Low works well - Pieces of What by MGMT almost always, oddly. Quite like really drifty beatless stuff to complement the oxytocin. Donโ€™t really get working out to hectic stuff, I quite like to relax whilst exercising. Makes me weird?

Iโ€™ve found itโ€™s pointless trying to compete with the music being pumped in over the speakers.

Punk, mostly. Even if not doing cardio I like something that keeps me awake with a good, consistent tempo. Metal, thrash, crossover, post-hardcore, etc. can work too if the album doesnโ€™t have slower moments. But generally skate punk keeps me moving. Iโ€™ll either choose an album or shuffle my Gym playlist which is just a bunch of punk albums.

Predictable answer coming from me but Pumpkins concerts are the absolute best for working out. Billy ratchets up the speed and intensity / viciousness and itโ€™s hard not to just lose yourself in it and let the anger / energy push you.

Some examples:
Zero 11-29-00
An Ode to No One 05-24-2000 (everything after 1:20 is nuts)
Silverfuck 01-08-1997
Siva 1994 Lost Tapes
etc.

Just the best.

311โ€™s self-titled album is an all-time great workout album too. Nonstop riffs and energy.
