exactly the same thing here. I kept asking my friend if I was embarrassing him or what he’d do if I suddenly jumped up and started chanting, and this was during the 3-1 schurle thriller a few years ago. he told me he’d never been as nervous during a match because ‘i’m the sort of person who’d be capable of doing that’.

he got quite pissed off when I gave the finger to the fulham badger mascot at half time, and he’s the most chilled out person I know.

So it took about three hours after the World Cup finished for the negative hundred plus word posts to kick up again.

Great World Cup, great threads, great fun. Night.

Lot of me turning round to other sheff United fans saying ‘we’re giving it our best and thats all we can ask, but we’re playing against a really top quality side here’ etc.

Just watching the highlights on BBC 1

Don’t know if any of you covered this, but the VAR penalty call is pretty dubious and should not have been given

lots of people saying 2002 was shit, i loved it but i guess that was mainly due to Ireland being in it. but it was also the first one i got really into and really excited by, after watching 98 fairly passively as a 9 year old.

2010 was the worst for me too, think i really failed to get properly into it like i usually do and every Spain match was so boring.

Tbh I didn’t get into this world cup at all. Think cos it was coming off the back of a slightly rubbish Arsenal season which made me stop caring about the whole football thing so much. Kind of a shame but I much preferred 2014, even though apparently it was much worse.

this edition of the world cup was lots of fun. really enjoyed it

2022 will be a strange one

Here’s what they should do:

Group stages are the best bit of the World Cup so why not just have every team in the world (or maybe top 50) all play each other and whoever wins the most wins. No boring knockout matches, no penalties. I’d have no idea who might win and then you could do away with club football because it would last ages.

This is basically what’s about to happen in hockey (field). Will kill the domestic game.
