This among many other things is another reason why I’m bothered by Trump, his brash approach is terrible for any form of diplomacy and captures headlines far easier than the actions being pursued by his secretary of state who should surely be at the front of this.

@ericthefourth, @Mistersteve - by ‘problematic lyrics’ do you mean things that are offensive to particular groups (e.g. misogynistic, racist)? It’s a pretty different thing to joke about the evident insanity of political reality that affects the entire world population, surely?

granted, the jokes might not be funny, and you’re well within your rights to think they’re trite or dull or whatever, but exaggerating the hyperactive late-night entertainment type nature of all of this discourse definitely isn’t an attempt to be particularly edgy or offensive

I cant speak for what mistersteve said, not sure why you’re asking me to. I said it was borderline, but
i personally find someone changing their picture to kim jong un and posting IRONIC LOLZ about all this to not be in great taste tbh.

mate just don’t partake if it’s not your thing, it’s no big deal. we all express our worry about these things in different ways, and there’s another thread about the same subject for more serious discussion. we’re not getting 4chan about this, as far as i know there’s been no racism or xenophobia (nobody - rightly - would stand for it if there had been), and there has been sober talk in this thread as well as silliness and sarcasm.

as brainfeeder said, it’s such a stupid and crazy situation the only rational response for some of us is really bleak, sarcastic humour, tip-toeing up to nihilism without diving fully into it. i feel it’s a perfectly natural reaction in the circumstances. literally millions of other people have felt the same way all through history.

i’ll change my pic as a show of good faith, too. :v::peace_symbol:

We’re British (most of us), gallows humour is what we do.

yeah, I mean I can’t bring myself to be angry at anyone here for doing it because I totally understand but it’s a bit upsetting to be reading stuff like this sometimes.

Just hope the UK takes this military strategy this time around

That was quick. We should get this cunt over to the UK to sort out Trident for us. Should save us a few years and a few quid.

Funny, cos his first order was to strip away affordable, equal healthcare for the population. Not sure how that has anything to do with nukes. Fucking narcissistic wotsit twat.

Sorry, I mentioned both you guys and then made two separate points, I wasn’t asking you to answer for mistersteve, should have made that clearer.

I basically second what blueturtle said, I can’t see the need for reactions like this to be policed as I can’t see who could be hurt by it. I guess I just don’t get what the breach of good taste really consists of, other than a difference of opinion in what’s funny. Without someone being hurt by it, I can’t see what the issue could be.

Hold on, is this instead of, or as well as the ‘chlorinated chicken’. I honestly can’t keep up these days.

General Kim Rak Gyom, the head of the country’s strategic forces, declared: “Sound dialogue is not possible with such a guy bereft of reason and only absolute force can work on him. He’s let out a load of nonsense about ‘fire and fury’, failing to grasp the ongoing grave situation. This is extremely getting on the nerves of the infuriated Hwasong artillerymen of the KPA.”

why if i didn’t know better i’d say the north koreans were trolling the fuhrer.

Oh, and I am 42. So I remember only too clearly a massive chunk of my childhood in the 80s being terrified of nuclear war, and could picture the mushroom cloud on the horizon. Films like Terminator where they showed this kind of thing, (people being incinerated) fed into this.

All this is a very unwelcome return of that anxiety.

I read somewhere recently -can’t find where for the life of me- that the reason no country has acted strongly against NK all this time knowing that they’re trying to produce nukes, is because of the sheer amount of heavy artillery they have trained on Seoul, which is just 40km south of the DMZ.

The chilling statistic was along the lines of, if you laid a grid over the entire city consisting of 3ft x 3ft squares, a piece of North Korean heavy artillery would land in every square if fired all at once.

Military action by any nation against NK would probably result in the almost complete destruction of a city of 25,000,000 people.

Grim.

Here you go

Cheers! That’s the one. Actually skim read that again looking for the stat but missed it. Such a cheery article!

Googling brought up a plethora of similarly cheery articles on the same theme.
