I wouldn’t use one in public nowadays as it would torture everyone’s ears but for various projects I’ve often considered buying a typewriter for the self-discipline and focus it encourages, i.e. what you press on the keys goes straight on the paper and you can’t just go back and press delete, it’s final, a done deal, boom. Richey Edwards wrote lyrics that way at least for The Holy Bible and what became Journal for Plague Lovers and they were always fantastically rich, detailed and concise.
