I’d probably have Jigsaw in my top 10 songs, and can’t immediately think of a bad B-sides from the Fish era. I will give you Emerald Lies as being not one of the best ones though. Each to their own, like you say. When I was watching them live I always thought that Jigsaw would be perfect for H to perform and could be one of those songs from that era that he could ‘own’ (like Warm Wet Circles/TTOTN). Same with Cinderella Search from a similar time too.

I rarely go back to listen to the early H stuff but do still stick the Fish ones on quite a bit. Back in the day Fugazi was my favourite album (probably of all time), but I think the production is probably the weakest on that album and it has aged worst (although it probably still has my favourite two Marillion songs - Incubus and Fugazi). Clutching used to be my least favourite album of that era but I think is probably the one which stands up best with the passing of time (just for the Record aside, of course!).

Cosmo’s Ladder and AGTM (along with the first 2/3 of Robocop 4) are up (down) there but The Contrarian is probably my least favourite. Ends an otherwise brilliant album on a bit of a whimper. The song goes nowhere (interesting).

It’s “The Horn” for me, Clive - Crazy Naked Girls has the bit at the start that’s okay, at least…

I don’t particularly like The Horn either, but it’s just a jolly piece of fluff which fits the tone of the album. The two I mentioned are where they let their stoner inner jokes crowd out their better judgment and become as bad as the Dandy Warhols can be.

but the harmonica…

Have to disagree with you on Robocop and The Contrarian. I’ll give you the last 1/3 of Robocop exceeds the first 2/3 but I still really enjoy the whole song, was great to hear it again on the last tour. Really like it when FOTL throw a slow one into the mix, and I do think The Contrarian stands up well. They encored with French Lessons on the last tour which was a highlight. Think they should do an album of covers of 1980’s power ballads - I’d be front of the queue for crowdfunding that one if anyone wants to drop shit_rock a line with the suggestion.

Maybe not my worst ever FOTL song but compared to how many times I have to endure I’d suggest You Need Satan More Than He Needs You. Always time to go to the bar when they play it live, and it’s by far the weakest point for me on Travels (one of my favourite albums of all time apart from that one).

I remember Falco stating how he wasn’t keen on I Am The Least Of Your Problems. He didn’t mind Sorry Dad… when I told him it was my fave off of Plot.

A Guide To Men is great though, proper weird.

better overall, but I’ve still yet to figure out exactly what they were going for with this track:

Saved by some dark lyrics, but the sad trumpet guitar tone is awful. I seem to remember this being considered their weakest track by far for a long time, but now it seems like everyone considers it a highlight for some reason.

I’m in the latter category for No More Sorry, great atmospheric interlude

Never been a huge fan of Satan either. Would be great if there was a devastating pay off towards the end (which I was hoping for first time I listened to it) but it never materialises, shame.

Robocop has great lyrics and is fun live but musically it’s not one i’m that keen on. i quite like The Contrarian though, obv very different and low key compared to the rest of the record/their output but i think it works well and is quite nice. i could be remembering this wrong but i feel like i read an interview or something once where Falco said they put in the record to deliberately further piss off the Mclusky fans that were annoyed at them using a synth.

ah man, what the fuck. a classic! can rarely resist the urge to shout along to the ending even at home.

it sounds vaguely spastic to me.

Worst Beatles one (aside from Rrvolution 9 and Within You) is Lady Madonna. Maybe worse than Obladi Oblads

There’s a Brand New song that mentions the Smiths and that’s probably all I know about them

Mixtape. It’s not one of their best, in fact I think someone mentioned it further up as their pick for worst song

For Green Day, I’m usually of a mind to skip Warning and Are We The Waiting when cruising through their catalogue.

All sounds the same to me tbftbh #campaignforrealemo

Crazy talk. Big fan of Lady Madonna. The worst Beatles song is Revolution #9, the one I’m least inclined to listen to is Hey Jude.
