Always thought that was a myth, but a mate of mine was in the Met for years and said it was true. Weird hours make it difficult to meet people, was his reasoning. I went to his wedding and it was full of Old Bill. He was one of the few people I spoke to who’s other half wasn’t in the police.

Other things I thought were myths that he told me were actually true - using sirens because they want to get back to the station house, eating doughnuts (they had a doughnut buying rota), people nicking drugs out of the seizures room for work nights out.

Probably although every time I’ve talked to someone in the police, I’ve always had to steer clear of mentioning certain, incredibly dull but still borderline activities (like torrenting).

I also remember thinking that one of the detectives (I think she might have had a different position) in 24 hours in custody was ridiculously attractive.

Yeah, I did.

Ever go as far as to churn out a bit of fanfic about it?

watched some early eps of the bill a while back, made me feel mad nostalgic

Maybe in my head.

Worth it for the theme tune innit. That bass

Did it involve Charlie Fairhead ploughing Sgt June Ackland?

I work with someone who’s boyfriend is a rozzer and they have a ‘dodgy box’. It’s fine.

and Reg walks in really awkwardly and has to do a comedy back out of the room then looks to camera and does a shrug then the end credits

Already do (-ish)

Yeah, I know a guy who was in a small group of police who were targeting drugs or something, and apparently they had to keep moving individuals in/out of the squad to deal with the fact that certain people couldn’t work together because they’d all slept with each other.

The whole police force is basically Fleetwood Mac on a huge scale.

I went on a blind date with a WPC once. Got bitten by a dog just before I went in, which provided some excellent ice breakers.

She was spectacularly dull though, and only came to life when other police officers she knew came in the pub.

(clearly could’ve been me though, I accept that).
