This is fucking GREAT, do you have a tracklist? Spans a whole range of genres and moods without feeling scattershot which is no mean feat. Some amazing tracks on there. The conscious hip hop-type one (about how shit America is) has such fantastic production. Enjoyed the black metalish track towards the start a lot too. Excellent all round and I will be listening again.

Damn missed one! Thought I could edit it but I obviously waited too long, grr!

This should be between JJ Doom and The Disposable…

Why? - January Twenty Something

Hey, if only one track didn’t do it for you, I will take that as a successful mix! :slight_smile:

One of my favourite Why? tracks, that.
Thanks again - it is RAD.

forgot to give @bornin69x his feedback for this round (partly cos i couldn’t remember where i left the CD for a while after i’d played it and couldn’t remember the tracklisting)

solid mix. well familiar with some of it like Cohen, The Fall, Fleet Foxes, Decemberists, Broadcast, Low (only heard the Low track for the first time a couple of months ago though in the run up to their christmas gigs so was nice to see it turn up here).

the Advisory Circle one interested me, i’ve only heard one song before from featuring in a couple of Stewart Lee’s shows (Now Ends The Beginning) and then read about them in Retromania by Simon Reynolds recently so was meaning to listen to some more of them. definite Boards of Canada vibes from this track, enjoyed. also really liked the following track by Esplandor Geometrico who i’d never heard of before, and the Clientele one, who i’ve never listened to. also hadn’t heard any Jens Lekman in years so that track was a nice little reminder he exists.

nothing i disliked, just a couple that washed over me a little bit, like the Kate Bush one (its largely the dated production putting me off that one though, would be decent otherwise)

thanks again!

Have given yours a few listens now & have really enjoyed it.
The first couple of songs are great & I’ve been revisiting White Light by Gene Clark since. Winter In is an amazing song and to think it was just tagged on as a bonus track!
It’s quite interesting how you mixed it up with some quite out there stuff in the middle, which I wasn’t familiar with. I’d like to check some of this stuff out in their own context.
Kudos for finishing on that Tom Waits track from his Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards compilation… A real gem of a tune from one of my all time favourite artists.
The other big highlight was Midlake, a band I’ve not listened to much but I’d like to dig deeper now.
Thanks a million!

@TVDenimChap

Really good mix to have on in the background while I’m getting stuff done at my desk. The whole thing flows really nicely and I like the way it jumps about a few different genres. Not heard badbadnotgood before, or Tim Wheeler, but I liked those a lot. That Charli XCX song is also really good too, there’s something really satisfying about the arrangement/production. Sorry that it’s taken me so long to write something about this, but don’t tell the others - it’s probably my favourite. Hints of Black Metal were much appreciated.

@shes_so_high

Casiotone for the painfully alone! Great to see that in there, I was thinking about those albums the other day and I’ve been meaning to go back through them. The mix ends on a lovely/creepy note as well with the Robert De Niro/Nils Frahm track at the end, I had no idea they did that! Also enjoyed the Daughter song a lot, and The Walkmen track reminds me I need to give them a proper listen instead of just listening to The Rat. Also appreciated your note that came with it, and not wanting the " DiS points" which in an odd way, gets you points in my eyes anyway? I’m not making sense.

Thanks to both of you, I like them a lot! Both of these have January Hymn on them which is a cool link between them, because both mixes are so different.

Think I’ve still got some feedback to give people, sorry! Will do so very soon! :slight_smile: Have enjoyed all the mixes I’ve been sent though, thanks gang!

Thanks for your disc @shes_so_high ,was well worth the wait, sorry it’s taken so long for the feedback. That Frahm/Woodkid song is great, I’m partial to a but of Frahm but don’t have that one so will have to get it. Nice to have a White Stripes songs with Meg singing. Haven’t listened to Casiotone for ages, saw him on his farewell tour which was quite touching, will have to put it on again later.

Have to agree with you on the Fleet Foxes, not really for me. The only other miss was Wilco, they seem to pop up on a number of these disc swaps and I know the are highly thought by some, but they just seem a but bland, I struggle to actually dislike them too much and definitely struggle to like them.

Thanks.

Belated thanks from me too for your disc @shes_so_high. Good fun mix.

The Joanna Newsome song was from the only album of hers I know - I’m never sure whether I like her work much or not. She seems very popular on here, but then I see the length of that follow up album and wonder whether the baroque artwork matches the style and with it being paired with that voice, I can never quite convince myself to take the plunge.

I didn’t know either the Arcade Fire track or the Pixies cover, but they were both very cool. The Yeasayer one was good too - I loved All Our Cymbals, but the follow up left me cold, so I lost track. This one is taken from a more recent album of theirs? Makes me want to give that one a listen.

Casiotone For The Painfully Alone was an interesting song added a nicely discordant note to proceedings - I’d always been put off by the name, but that was good. Nils Frahm was a great closer. Thanks again! :slight_smile:
