Scrawl also joined them one night - they’re one for the “Name an artist you reckon no one has thought about in years” thread.

Was looking today at their setlists for all of their Hanukkah shows in New York. As I think is the norm, they didn’t play the same song twice over the 8 nights, which alone is quite incredible. Covers of Dylan, Velvet Underground, Beatles, Neil Young, Patti Smith, Fred Neil and others. Guests included (members of) The Bangles, Wilco, The National, Sun Ra Arkestra, Built To Spill, Bonnie Prince Billy, Norah Jones, Lucinda Williams.

They’ve then gone on to a short residency in San Francisco, again not repeating songs (and with some quite obscure songs from their back catalogue). Luna joining them on stage and including covers of Neil Young, Donovan, Dream Syndicate, Foreigner, Black Sabbath, Grateful Dead and others.

Such a great band. Would love for them tin release a live box set some time.

I’m pretty sure Hanukkah this year is going to coincide with the Hold Steady’s annual NYC residency and oh boy you’d better believe I’m tempted.
