It’s the kind of thing that you can do harmlessly but pretty ineffectively if you’re a centimetre out in one direction, or harmfully if you’re a centimetre out in the other direction.
Try to find a beginner’s class near you and go to it once or twice a week. Once you feel confident doing some of the poses you can also try them at home.
I’ve been doing yoga all my life and I still need my instructor to do manual adjustments to my poses most days.
