GP

  • Just tell them to take some paracetamol and maybe refer them to a specialist.
  • It’s hard pretending to think about the symptoms first.

I’m going to reluctantly take your side a bit here. It is possible to become a mediocre snooker player on practice alone (ie no bothering to learn any techniques). However you’ll never make a break over 30 and it will take you months of solid practice to get to that level.

You’d need to be shit hot at googling symptoms. I know someone on here who’d be a great GP

Balonz?

My basic assertion is that you could pick any baby at random and choose to make them a world champion at Snooker provided you were willing to force them to practice day-in day-out for the majority of their childhood and adolescence

I dunno.

If you hypothetically had a very good table and the means for unlimited practice i doubt you could pull someone off the street and get them up to professional level.

You could quite probably teach them the basics, drum bad habits out of them and make them a competitive pub league standard player, in the same way that you could probably teach someone how to play football to the point they’d be good enough to turn out for sides near the bottom of the pyramid.

I have quite an authoritative voice which would mean I probably wouldn’t even need to google.

Drums are very easy, drummers keep this secret, the very early learning curve is pretty steep, steeper than a lot of instruments, but that’s a few hours. If you can tap your fingers you can drum

You should set up a nation state, like Sparta, but instead of warriors it would be snookerists.

You don’t even need google - they have software that helps with differential diagnosis and stuff these days anyway.

Yeah you’re wrong, bug’s right. Becoming world champ requires rock solid technique, a competitive spirit and a whole bundle of mental strength.

brain surgery

  • if I mess it up, I can just reconfigure their brain so that bad brain surgery registers as good brain surgery
  • but what if I reconfigure their brain wrong and they turn into a demon

I guess the mentality side can’t be taught that easily I suppose.

Ok, replace everything I said but with “darts” instead

Do you generally believe that most people can get good at most things by just practicing the shit out of that thing? N.B numerous massive caveats here

  • Yes. Yes I do.
  • For most stuff but there are certain things that require a distinct way of thinking or really exemplary technical ability
  • To a certain extent
  • No not at all

think driving a car is a good example.
most people could do a crash course and pass their test in 24 hours. wouldn’t be winning formula one though would they. (unless they drove for Ferrari or whoever has the best car right now)

They would probably be really tired and drive into a tree.
