When I was 21 I thought I was really old. But 21 year olds now are like “I’m only 21”. Interesting.
It’s because 21 used to be an adult but it isn’t any more.
I have also noticed this.
It’s nice.
Like old pricks on TV
People were older in the past
‘Ooooh Mr Mulhern, lovely to meet you. I’m 81 you know’
‘Yes Gladys you’ve said. 23 times now’
‘Ooooh sorry I don’t remember. I’m 81 you know’
‘Join us after the break’
Even me!
Is this what television is like? On the whole I’m glad I watch internet instead then
That’s just what you do once you reach 80, tell everyone your age
Its EXACTLY like that yeah
Its all Barrymore did on Strike it Lucky. Spend 10 minutes with some 85 year old saying she’s 85 and then press a button to win some skydiving
There’s probably a lot less riding on you having good chat, your f&f are just glad you’re still around, so you can coast by on repeating your age.
This is a very astute and well articulated observation
Well done he’s 21
Thank you for your kind feedback
End point of commodifying worth according to age or something
I think, as a society, we’re recognising more that teenagers are children eg we shouldn’t have them topless in national newspapers. I see a lot more “your brain isn’t fully developed until 25” comments online now, and it seems to me that we’re recognising more young adults in the public consciousness as young - like it’s crazy to remember the old days of 20 year old Lindsey Lohan careening around Hollywood regarded as fair game for ridicule when we also knew she was from a difficult background and kind of a vulnerable person. Think this helps to create more an attitude where we let people be young for longer but idk,
I dunno maybe (definitely) I’m old and out of date.
Kind of think this but also think that there’s an element of young adults being unable to move out, get onto the housing ladder, get a career etc. 18-21 years olds now feel very different compared to 20 years ago
