As we’re fast approaching half way point of the year, what is your favourite album so far?

Mine is the debut solo album by Marlene Ribeiro (Gnod, Faust etc) - Toquei No Sol. It’s just so beautifully hazy and dreamy like a perfect summer’s day. It’s so exquisite and it’s been on frequent rotate since its release back in February:

Currently a tie between Jen Cloher, Lana Del Rey and Lael Neale. As the latter might be the lesser known I’ll call it Neale and post this.

I don’t know how to narrow it down yet but so far these are realistically the top 5 contenders. In order of complete release date:

The Murder Capital - Gigi’s Recovery
Yo La Tengo - This Stupid World
Wednesday - Rat Saw God
The Smashing Pumpkins - ATUM
Midwife and Vyva Melinkolya - Orbweaving

All are amazing in their own way.

I’d be very surprised if anything tops Lankum’s ‘False Lankum’ record this year for me. And also very pleased, as it would have to be incredibly good.

I’ve heard less than 30 albums so far this year and still don’t feel like I know them well enough to decide. I can narrow down to 5 probably, but that’s not the ask, and they need more time. I think that also means nothing’s completely blown me away.
