I seem to remember this was as Cowboys Stadium had just opened too (there was loads of stupid things going on there too, like people kicking the ball against the giant screen than hangs above the pitch). Partiularly funny given it’s the Cowboys and no one was seriously hurt

In keeping with the professional thing descending into amateurishness theme: when a batsman with little to no bowling pedigree is turned to when all the proper bowlers have failed and s/he chucks down some utter filth which results immediately in a wicket.

Root is quite good for this although he bowls often enough for it not to be THAT remarkable; Alistair Cook’s wicket taking comedy delivery was much more fun:

Was playing cricket this evening, and one of the opposition bats hit one of the loveliest straight drives, so those. The kinda shots where the batsman just leans into hitting the ball, without really trying to hit it.

the two greatest things in cricket are:

  • An overly flamboyant leave for a ball miles outside off
  • An overly flamboyant leave for one that nips in and pings the bail off the top of off-stump (preferably without touching the stump itself)

I once bowled somebody around their legs with a wayward outswinger as they nonchalantly left the ball. Was lovely.
