The soundtrack thing does get annoying as it changes depends on who I’m talking to at any given moment. Everyone just has to get used to the occassional pivot from 90s stoner rock to 70s Nigerian funk. That or throw things at me. I’ve had parties like this and it tends to be the latter.

Did this for my 30th (and 31st actually) - rented a big cottage/activity centre in the Peaks that slept 60 in bunk rooms plus space for campers. Took a friend’s PA with us, ordered a load of Pieminister pies and curry from Lily’s Indian vegetarian in Ashton and had a bloody great weekend both times.

dan_thw came both times and turned out to be an excellent DJ

I think I mostly like activities. Trying to think of what I’d do for mine and it’s just

Pub
Bowling
Karaoke
Laser quest
Pub
Curry

I’m basically a big boozy child.

It was this place - I’d strongly recommend it if anyone is looking for a venue:

Incredible value too - I think they charged us £1k for two nights which between everyone who came worked out at around £25pp for two nights plus all food included. Ridiculous.

Nice curry and a couple beers

Theme: some sort of glam fancy dress where everyone makes a massive effort and loves it. If I can shoehorn myself into plastic trousers and body glitter into the theme then that.
Food: painstakingly self-prepared and over-catered. Many baked products, Mediterranean salads, pico de gallo, possibly meze, homemade pittas with kofte, pizza, heavy and moist pistachio cakes.
Soundtrack: loud and fast, rock turning to hard house and psy-trance until the following lunchtime.
Number of guests: loads
Location: my house
Activities/other: dancing, yeah karaoke, cocktails. The kids at grandma’s

Theme:
Food: Cocktail sausage rolls (still warm), cocktail sausages (still warm), plate of pineapple and cheese sticks for the veggies, plate of pineapple stick for the vegans
Soundtrack: BANGERS
Number of guests: 34
Location: Someone’s house (but not mine)
Activities/other: Spin the bottle

Pretty much did this every summer on London Fields and gonna continue it this summer:

Theme: get the plastic quick cricket set out at the height of summer and have a big dip in and out game of catch with accessories essentially
Food: bbq
Soundtrack: hip hop and R&B in the sun, a load of house and electronica for the evening
Number of guests: normally around 30 or so
Location: my gaff and the playing field behind it and then garden for food/evening
Activities/other: 4 player Mario Kart on the Switch when it gets too chilly/dark outside

Had to do something to compete with the german oompah band and the gospel choir.

Asian karaoke good
British pub karaoke, one of the worst sins known to humankind.

Lots of these sound more like mini break weekends away with friends. Really bloody, lovely weekends away with friends, mind.

Pub with food and as many sludge beers as you can manage til you pass out. 15-20 or so people is plenty.

No need to overthink this, is there?
