Your ten absolute favourite songs of all-time?

#101

I love Elizabeth on the Bathroom Floor. It’s so…fragile.

#102

done up to here in thread, got rsi, not doing any more.

#103

You beautiful, beautiful lamb.

#104

Chooon

#105

Probably my two favourites as well. And Bone Machine.

#106

This list would probably have been my top 10 7 or 8 years ago. Gonna go back and listen to all these tunes later.

#107

Love that Gorkys song. One of my faves, “Heart of Kentucky” probably just pipping it

#108

MURDER OF ONE.

(Been listening to them this week)

#109

Observations:

  1. this thread and its attendant playlist is fucking magnificent

  2. massively regretting not including a lot of stuff.

#110

Sticking this one on is a bit of a cheat- it’s about 7 songs in one!

#111

I love this Low track so much

#112

great stuff, m8  not gonna tell you to swap out the Russian Futurists tune for the Dirty Three one, after doing all of those

man, I was trying to think of a Red House Painters song to stick in mine but couldn’t; now I’m annoyed I didn’t think of ‘Japanese to English’ because that might have edged something out.

#113

WThis is hard…
In no particular order after the 1st one which is nailed on as my all time favourite song.

Nick Cave - The Mercy Seat
LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends
Low - In Metal
Smog - I Could Drive Forever
Sharon Van Etten - Serpents
Joanna Newsom - Baby Birch
Frank Ocean - Nikes
Neil Young - On The Beach
Sleater Kinney - Entertain
Velvet Underground - What Goes On

#114

I’m trying to pinpoint exactly what gives it that unfailing lump-in-the-throat quality… it’s a fan-favourite, I hear?

it’s always seemed like people are more into the post-TWLITF stuff when I’ve been to see them, I don’t know if it has the same exalted status these days. still does it for me, though.

#115

Okay, so off the top of my head:

Grandaddy: He’s simple, he’s dumb, he’s the pilot
ELO: Mr Blue Sky
Sigur Ros: Staralfur
Aphex Twin: Avril 14th
Elliott Smith: Pitseleh
Doves: The Cedar Room
Belle and Sebastian: Lazy Line Painter Jane
Low: Two Step
Mogwai: New paths to Helicon part 1 (the version from Government Commissions)
And yeah sure, let’s finish with Sufjan Stevens: Impossible Soul

#116

after an hour or so any posts that didn’t obviously have a list in em were met with praise to the lord & scrolled past toot sweet. could stick it on yourself though, it’s a collaborative playlist.

#117

I guess I can understand them not doing more early songs when they play live, but there are several from their real slowcore years that I’ve never heard. Coattails, Two Step, Don’t Understand…

#118

Great Prince shout there👍

#119

ahh cool, will do!

#120

Coattails was a contender for my ten, that was my favourite for a long time.

I’m also resigned to never seeing the original version of Silver Rider live. the later version just doesn’t compare tbf tbh
