Here’s my top 10 for the last year:

Happy to help!

Having done some careful planning to avoid some of the mistakes mentioned upthread I’ve come up with a list that looks a bit like this (a lot like this actually, it IS this):

65daysofstatic
Kendrick Lamar
Outkast
The Roots
Kanye West
Brand New (but I can’t listen to them any more)
Young Fathers
The Wrens
Little Brother
Built to Spill perhaps? Actually no, let’s say The National even though I haven’t liked any recent albums

Yours is the first mention of Robyn in this thread, which surprised me, as I thought more people would have her in their list.

(she’d be in mine, certainly)

Still mostly a load of white american men with noisy guitars. Some black american men without guitars too I guess.

Five artists with women, one nb, lots of men, all white other than ES who were 1/2 Japanese. Yo La Tengo and The Walkmen need to be in there, but who knew 10 spots isn’t enough for 12 artists!

David Bowie
Elliott Smith
Idlewild
Beastie Boys
Sufjan Stevens
A Tribe Called Quest
Tom Waits
The Smiths (reluctantly, but still)
St Vincent
Pixies

Or something like that, I dunno. It’s white and it’s male, but when it comes to your all-timers you’re always gonna favour the stuff you got into years ago. My listening history over the last few years is a lot more diverse, I’m sure that’s the same for most people who’ve submitted a list of white guys.

Ariana Grande
Alvvays
Hole
Pixies
Taylor Swift
Blink 182
Weezer
Kanye West

So, yeah, almost entirely white :eyes: Music didn’t exist before the late 1980s right?

There’s artists who I’ve played an absolute shit tonne but only truly love one album they’ve done (Best Coast, Magnetic Fields, Beyonce) or Abba where I rave about them but never went beyond the best of because I’m lazy. Or No Doubt whose best of is incredible but puts all their other albums in the shade.

Feel bad leaving out Julia Holter, Kendrick, Quelle Chris, Boards of Canada, Leonard Cohen, Hailu Mergia…
