Vandal Hearts too

Legit cannot wait to read this thread. The nostalgia tied up in this stuff is pure magic. Also 5 is criminally unfair, do I have to leave out monkey ball?!!!

This is what I do!

I use mods to make it better too. The one that lets you start in a different location is essential, then I add things for the character. Last one was an old smith who joined up to fight the stormcloaks, so I got a mod that gave him all the recipes from the start and he started in Solitude.

It’s the Live Another Life mod and it skips all the intro stuff.

I love Argonians. I really enjoyed enchanting, but not yet done much alchemy. Next character will be a potion-head. :grinning:

Good shout

I’ve never played any Final Fantasy or Zelda games. Just remember seeing it come up with your cards when you encountered an enemy and being disgusted.

Fuck this was so good

I listened to the Cane and Rinse episode on that the other day. Haven’t played it since childhood, but I remember enjoying it / really loving exploring those (possibly misremembered as) massive levels.

I also liked how many times they said “monkey” in the podcast.

I don’t think they were big in, say, a sandbox style way, but they always felt massive due to the scope of imagination. The level where you enter the mouth of a whale and then theres a whole new world to explore inside blew my mind. In my opinion it’s the best platformer made outside of the Mario games.

You’ve played the best. Why even try the rest?

In part because I didn’t get very far! I was very young and got confused at an early puzzle, I think.

I remember enjoying the bow-wows and the character who looks amusingly like Mario

GTA Vice City

WHSmiths had this in Wakefield the day before official release so my Mum bought it for me. I still remember the first mission, the sun in the screen and the motorbike, going to the hotel with the reflective floor. My mind was blown. Unbelievable game.

Resi Evil 4

WWF Smackdown

I think it was 2 where ladder matches were included? Somehow, a mate on my street had an illegal version without commentary/other featurss before release date so I played it incessantly.

Championship Manager

Dunno about a fifth, not too arsed about games

Limited myself to just one per franchise so its not all souls games…

1 (by a mile) Dark Souls 3. Ds1 probably had a greater impact on me because I’d never played anything like it at the time and it made me fall in love with games all over again. Still the only modern game franchise where you feel that utter exhilaration after each victory as you’ve really earned it.

2 Mass Effect 2. Probably the first time I ever felt like the story and writing of an rpg lived up to the quality of film and TV. Brilliant.

3 skyrim. I think that the years of reissues etc have left this to age fairly ungratefully and I think there’s a ‘over familiarity breeds contempt’ issue too. But if I think back to when I first played this, the scope and scale of the world (and the dragons!) made such an impact on me

4 Mario galaxy 2. Most fun I’ve ever had in multi player with my resolutely non gamer wife joining on these beautifully constructed levels.

5 bioshock. Best setting of any video game ever. Had me in raptures from my first play through.
