Guess what kind of genre I like.

5 - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - I think the first game I ever completed. For its time it was such an expansive game with so many mysteries to uncover and such a big world to explore. Great dungeon design, slick combat, puzzles at just the right balance of hard but solvable, Bongo Bongo is one of the great bosses of our time.

4 - Mass Effect - I’m replaying it now and it’s still so fucking good. The characters are so well drawn out and the universe BioWare has created is so detailed. And the combat is so well tuned, it’s so fun that I don’t mind when I die cause I get to replay the action. And the story! So good with some major ‘HOLY SHIT’ moments. I just played Virmire this morning and the Sovereign reveal is just mwah perfect.

3 - World of Warcraft - In case you hadn’t noticed yet what I really look for in a game is a world that I can just lose myself in. One that feels rich and huge and real. No world is better for that than the world of Azeroth. There’s just so much to explore, so many places to see and things to do and secrets to discover. I’ve put so many hours into this without ever even making it to max level and I’ve still had a blast because every nook and cranny of Blizzard’s creation breathes with life.

2 - Warcraft III - Yeah… That was kind of an obvious follow up, wasn’t it? But it’s very well deserved. As I made clear above Azeroth is my favourite world in video games and this was the game where I first discovered it. I was the perfect age for its mix of subverted fantasy tropes to feel new and fresh and the strategy mechanics are so well tuned. Grom’s noble redemption at the end of the Orc campaign is still beautiful to this day.

1 - Final Fantasy IX - A stone cold classic. Everything about FF9 is so well crafted from the characters to the enemies to the dungeons to the best soundtrack in gaming. The story zips along with twists and turns, the big plot beats all land hard, the FMVs are gorgeous. I could literally gush about this game forever. Zidane is an amazing protagonist, Chocobo Hot N Cold is the greatest minigame of all time, it’s emotional and funny and gripping and heartwrenching and oh my god, sheer gaming perfection.

I do mean that yes

I think in 2 there was the opportunity to use a chain to smack people around the head with, which I enjoyed a lot

Racing games?

nothing better than someone trying to attack you with a chain, grabbing the chain from them and then knocking them off their bike with their own chain

Road Rash 3 had loads more weapons iirc, but it wasn’t as good IMO

edit: just checked and Road Rash 3 had cattle prods and nunchucks :sunglasses:

I also liked being really nice to all the other racers, and building up a great bond with them in the post race ‘chats’, really getting a strong, trusting relationship going over a few races.

And then kicking the living shit out of them!!! :+1::+1::+1::+1::+1::+1:

this is quite hard. hmmm. in no particular order

the witcher 3
grim fandango
cities skylines
INSIDE
bully

bully might be replaced with arkham asylum tho

3 of these are current gen, which means games are getting better or my memory is getting shorter. also these are subject to change all the time

Miami Vice was the correct answer

INSIDE is the only game i’ve ever sat down and devoured, finished it the night i bought it, only paused to make a cuppa or have a joint

fuck it I forgot Gothic 2

6 - Gothic 2

Would quite like to get back into computer games but don’t have the time, despite having no life, never understand how people find the time, especially for big sprawling ones

This is what I thought, the only reason I’ve been able to get back into it is having a Switch so I can play it while we’re also watching TV or whatever. Still probably only average like 30 mins a day or something.

The first Mass Effect above the second?

Red Dead 2
Burnout Paradise
Metal Gear Solid 3
Pokemon Emerald
Smackdown Here Comes The Pain

I like the deeper RPG elements, the story’s a bit more twisty, Mako > scanning and Wrex isn’t a party member in 2
