Don’t think I’ve ever been so conflicted about a person. On one hand he’s a passionate music fan of a variety of genres like myself and he seems like an all round nice guy.
On the other hand does he REALLY like everything that much? Also his Apple interviews are fist-clenchingly pretentious and fawning. I bet he regrets the Beyoncé diss at Glastonbury these days.
Really relieved tbh, the rate famous people are dropping
I’m also conflicted, used to love him as a teenager and he’s done some really good in depth interviews over the years. But it does feel like he is really big headed which does put me off
He always seemed to have a slight air of smugness to hm that put me off him. This was compounded by a guy I used to work with who used to know him in New Zealand and said he was a penis.
I’ve always thought that he either has very ‘broad’ taste of music in quite an odd way (loves complete crap as much as he loves discovering genuinely good music) or has just been happy to play the pawn for major labels trying to break through the next big thing and make that his career. I guess it’s the latter. Just the voice of hype for absolutely anything they’re trying to push, and having his own opinions doesn’t really help his positioning.
Maybe he uses that to sneak through good music, IDK. It’s very hard to tell what he actually likes when everything is the most AMAZING record you’re going to hear all year
Same. Was stood next to me watching dead weather on the park stage at Glastonbury and I thought I’d be polite and say alright Zane and he just chatted to me for ages about nothing just shooting the shit
He has a very annoying djing style he was doing a dj set before The Weeknd at the Apollo and just didn’t need that many klaxons between verses of songs.
Beyond that I don’t really have a problem with him that radio 1 show was extremely formative, played Arctic Monkeys in 04, LCD a lot and probably most importantly World’s Gone Mad by Handsome Boy Modelling School.
His interviews are really annoying but unless you are a proper journalist how else is a dj meant to get things out of musicians without fawning over them in someway so I kind of get it.
