zanimos 100 favourite film scores

Ok thought I’d try a variation on a theme.

Here’s my restrictions/notes:

One album per artist otherwise I’d end up with a bunch of Morricone and Herrmann.

Films only so nothing from television, games etc.

Scores only, no soundtracks that are compilations of previously recorded tracks (although there are a couple that feature unoriginal tracks but which are primarily the score).

No musicals as that’s probably for a different list and definitely by a different person.

I’ve seen nearly all the films. I’m including these here on the basis that I love them as an album listening experience; there are plenty of examples of films where I love the score as featured in the film but as a standalone record they don’t really work.

If Steve Jablonsky’s score to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen isn’t in here, we’re gonna have words.

Just kidding. I listened to it loads in 2010 when I was still a hardened Bayverse defender. But it’s been 12 years since I last listened to it and probably never will again haha

Great thread idea. Do love a score.
I could probably do a top twenty but would struggle with a hundred.
Looking forward to this and expect there’ll be loads of nice stuff for me to dig into

Love the Kes Score! When Trunk issued it Jarvis did the liner notes and they’ve stuck with me, “This is beauty so fragile it hurts. This is music with the Jesses well & truly off.”

Great idea for a thread. I’ve been kicking my top 100 albums list around for awhile and there’s a number of scores on there.

^Oof - could not do a list without multiple offerings from my favourites. Kudos to you for this :+1:

Jaws 3 People 0

It’s going to be especially interesting seeing what your Morricone pick ends up being.

I’d find it impossible to choose between Giù la testa, I Malamondo or Vergogna Schifosi - although that last one is virtually an EP.

I thought top 100 Morricone albums might be a little too niche

Reading ^that selection makes me realise just how powerful a memory trigger music can be when combined with the moving image. Transported me right back to seeing some of those for the first time.

Still not seen Victoria. Need to get on that…

Two David Lynch accompaniments - nice :+1:

That It Follows score (brilliant) has totally shifted how modern horror films are scored - want to make someone feel uneasy, just bang an arpeggiator on it…
