This sounds amazing, are there categories or a specific etiquette, do they have to be a certain length?

Not really a certain length, but people know what the copying will cost you, and the going rate is to charge about double the printing costs, so Β£1-3 or so unless it’s a special colour one (and there’s a good reason for it being colour). Adverts and sponsorship are frowned on too.

What makes people get really pissed off is when people are calling something a zine, but want to charge a tenner for it. This esp happens when art school tutors decide to get their students to make zines and book a stall at a fair, and you get these zines that have like 10 pages just out of a sketchbook that they’re selling for Β£10, and they don’t want to make friends or swap with anyone, which is half the fun of the event.

Common sizes:
A6- aka quarter sized (multiples of 8 pages)
A5- aka half-sized (multiples of 4 pages)

And you can write about anything you like?

Yep.

Well, you might not have much success if you write about something bigoted or right-wing. Tends to be a very left wing audience.

This sounds fun and cool, I’m going to do one and dont think I will even charge I’ll just use my work printers

I did this little how to get started guide ages ago:

Anyone off here who ordered got theirs in the post yet?

gonnn look at them today

This is what I use. It can only do a few sheets of paper at a time though.
