wonder whether a mod could pin this so that all the different boards see it, but I figured it’d be more visible on the social board so anyway…
we (the people currently involved with the project to move dis to a privately hosted solution) thought it would be a good idea to get as many people as possible together over Zoom one evening (next week?) to talk about stuff that needs testing and checking on the test environment we’re hoping to get live and available for everyone to have a look at ASAP.
It would be really great if you, reader, could make it if you’d like to lend a hand here. Basically, people use the boards in different ways, on different devices, with different content etc etc, and the more people we have that are able to make suggestions on what we should be looking at, the more…robust and bug free the boards will be when it finally does move to the private solution. It would also be a good opportunity to talk about any new technical features and improvements you think might be a good idea. Again, what we’re doing is purely technical in nature, and any discussion regarding the governance of the boards should probably take place at another time as we’re against the clock, and need to have this done by April.
When would be good for you, next week starting 27/02 if you’d like to jump on and chat about what we need to do? We’ll be using something called Figma to collate ideas - its basically a collaborative fancy whiteboard.
For quick context: Discourse turned off the $600 direct crowdfunding option a few months ago (the big box at top of the site) and have given us a period of free usage before flicking back on the $600 a month charge to host on their server. However, the costs seem to be waaaaaay less if we host it ourselves using their software.
More or less. There are some considerations about what we do and don’t important but that’s a discussion for a later date once we’ve tested things and worked out what’s feasible.
