Need your help and expertise.
Been doing a family quiz on Zoom every Friday during lockdown: 6 or 7 couples/individuals playing, takes about an hour(ish). So far we’ve gone with a ‘standard’ format of general knowledge questions etc but I’m in charge this time and I want to switch things up a bit and do something different.
Any suggestions DiS?
We did a generation game style thing where we put a load of items on a table runner and pulled them along in front of a camera to make a video out of it. Happy to send you that as a video file if you want. Just pm me.
I did “Bastardmind” which each of the teams (in my quiz it is five individuals) each pick a specialist subject but everyone has to answer them. So five rounds each in a specific subject.
Other things I’ve done have been to add a Joker where people can double their score in a round but have to choose the round before they answer any2only based on the themed rounds.
Or a “sub” where you can choose someone else to answer the questions for you in that round but the person you’ve picked gets a bonus point.
I can DM you details of those rules.
My mate also did an amazing music round using mashups. Name both of the artists. Most of them were a mix of a classic tune and some godawful numetal act.
Different rounds we’ve done in family quizzes:
- scavenger hunt where teams have to find things around their houses and get a point if they find it within one minute (can also add things like “find the oldest item of clothing in your house” then whoever finds the oldest gets an extra point)
- drawing round judged by you
- each team gets texted a bird or animal and they have to make the bird or animal noise when it’s their turn and then everyone else guesses, if it’s guessed right then both the team making the noise and the guessing team get points
Also done a mini version of AQoS where the most popular answer gets the most points.
Is X the name of a firework or name of a sex toy
Is X a piece of Ikea furniture or a European swear word
Last week the TVs uncle did a “Grateful Dead song or craft beer” round, the most uncley quiz round ever
My friend group probably doesn’t even know who the Grateful Dead are, so I can’t Use it, but I love that concept. I hope a few people groaned in despair
I was completely useless in that round, smashed it on the one where we had to match up the politician to their favourite biscuit as told to Mumsnet though
Have generally found the best rounds are the ones that help if you’ve got specialist knowledge but can be guessed if you don’t e.g. Farrow and Ball colour or Games Workshop colour, who said it: Trump or Tiger King and guess the song when it’s being sung in a foreign language (this was inspired by finding a version of It’s Getting Hot in Here in Simlish).
My friend’s go-to quiz round is “Arguess” - items from the Argos website and we have to guess the prices. More fun than it sounds! You really find out how much people are willing to pay for things (tat, mostly) and the jewellery is incredible.
Thanks for the (frankly superb) suggestions.
I’ve gone for a Call My Bluff option where I’ve sent 6 words to each team. They have been given the correct definition for one of the words and have to make up definitions for the remaining 5. So each round will have one team explaining the correct definition and 5 teams trying to deceive everyone with fake definitions.
What could possibly go wrong?
Feel free to continue with the thread with your suggestions
Somewhat inspired by the Dis thread, I made a The Price is Right style round using some of the interesting items found on Wish.
Give everyone a set of prices and they have to match them to the item. Was quite funny although most people did terribly score wise. This might have worked better as a higher or lower type quiz
I did a round last week of guess the google maps satellite image. So mine was for a bunch of hockey players so did sattelite images of hockey pitches we’ve all played at but you could do football stadiums or castles or something like that. It’s good because you can’t google it. Also did a guess the year of the photo which can be nice if you want people to reminisce
That’s a great one, I wish I’d done that
Just remembered a picture round I made a couple of weeks ago, guess which celebrity is older out of these pairings
Best one was Gary Oldman v Gary Numan (Numan is older by 2 weeks!)
the animal noise one is so good
sat here cackling to myself at everyone doing really bad geese
We went hard for ours, the TV found an audio clip of whatever bird it was and practised it
