CW: Sexual assault allegation against Medhane

Seeing multiple reports that Medhane has raped women/a woman. Very upsetting stuff. I liked his most recent album quite a lot but there’s no chance I’ll be championing him after this. MIKE (a close friend of his) seems to have distanced himself from Medhane following these reports

Edit: Poor terminology

Actually, I have come full circle on this. He is an odd rapper, but I now love it. I think it took the new Westside Gunn to get me to revisit.

The Koreatown Oddity album is ace! Stumbled across it about a month ago and thought it had a great summery vibe.

Yo, you need to walk straight, master your high
Son you missin’ out on was passing you by
I done seen the streets suck a lot of cats dry
But not you and I, my n****, we got to get
[Come on, over, over the water
Come on, over, over the water]
Water, water…

Ah man. Those early Roots albums were completely formative for me and at the time, and getting into a whole load of rap and other music too. At the time, I wasn’t so hyped on Phrenology and Things Fall Apart (silly now, as they’re both v good records), and I was convinced it wasn’t The Roots without Malik B. He was never the rapper Black Thought is, but he dropped great verses and added variety and a different perspective to their tracks. Was so hyped when he returned on Game Theory, and was all over his features, still my favourite tracks on the record, which probably ended up being my favourite album of theirs. At least a part of me thinks there’ll never be another proper Roots album without him. What you leave is in the music buddy.

Nine is still my 90s hiphop favorite that I feel never had enough exposure.

i mean this doesn’t sound bad on a hot summer’s day and the RBL posse throwback is very welcome

Definitely a little slept on. Saw him live at a Westwood thing in Tottenham many years ago, around the time Lyin’ King came out. He also did that track with Smooth da Hustler.

He actually released an album fairly recently (it was shit).
