2023 flights audit

Did you enjoy Slovenia? I really want to go back eventually.

It was nice, yeah. We split our time equally between Bled, which is very touristy but absolutely stunning nonetheless, and Ljubljana, which is such a cool, little city. Loved the village vibe of Ljubljana, bumping into the same people time and time again. Beautiful country and great food. Didn’t really feel like a Balkans country though, instead feeling like a hybrid of Austria and (northern) Italy - alpine landscapes and Viennese architecture.

Yeh i should have said northern England. Most likely I’ll be trekking down yo heathrow to go to dusseldorf as well then. Got tickets to england v serbia and turkey v ??? In the first week in gelsenkirchen and dortmund. Neither look that exciting to stay in so if anyone who knows that bit of Germany could offer advice I’d be very grateful.

Might be worth looking at Eindhoven, not that far from Dusseldorf, and I got a flight from there to Manchester in November for £13 one way

No, Ryanair

I’ve stayed in Dortmund before and enjoyed it a lot - good museums (football and industry), great zoo, lovely big city park and loads of beer opportunities.

If you wanted to stay slightly further afield, Koln and Bonn are both quick on the train for ^those matches and both lovely…

ten flights, all flying to and from home (1 hour flight so 8 hours in total). Would actually like to have fewer flights home next year because doing a flight for only a weekend at home is very stressful and nearly pointless.

4 here. Stansted to Alicante. Valencia to Stansted. Stansted to Cologne. Zurich to Heathrow.

4 again in 2024, if i can make it work.

Düsseldorf is great.

Munster is lovely but quite small.

There’s nothing wrong with dortmund, Essen, Bochum, gelsenkirchen, Duisburg per se(id probably put them in that order of good to bad), just nothing really there for tourists to do.

They all have busy centres with shops and bars and restaurants and all that, some nice parks and the odd museum though.

Ten flights, all to head back home. I’m no longer going to head back for a weekend anymore as it is simply too stressful and expensive versus the enjoyment I get from it.

Ended up booking flights to dusseldor, thanks. All recommendations welcome if you have any.

Update on tickets, had a fairly successful day yesterday in the final resale and picked up tickets for Spain vs Italy at Gelsenkirchen and Slovakia vs Ukraine at Dusseldorf. I am excite!

Very nice. We ended up plumping for dusseldorf to stay in with games at gelsenkirchen and dortmund. Just need to sort out travel plans for the game days. Very excited too. Do you know where you’re staying yet?

We’re staying in Essen. Assuming transport is going to be dead simple (looks like we could literally walk to the Gelsenkirchen match). Need to find out where the best fan park in for days that we are not at matches. Going for the first week (weekend to weekend basically)…

There is a reduced price ticket scheme for the trains as well if you have bought a match ticket through UEFA which is nice. Not really sure how it works yet though or if it’s worth it for short journeys.

Good info - thanks :+1:

Assume we don’t have a Euro 2024 thread yet

AH that’s great, thanks. Looks like all my travel is in the same region so as long as i get on the right trains I’m riding for freeeee!
