Actual funny moments in Gavin and Stacey…

As the finale lacked anything resembling a laugh I thought it would be nice to post people’s funniest moments. It did have some.

Any scene involving Doris

It’s by no means my favourite comedy but there have been some laughs over the years. It did used to take a FEW more risks.

Yeah, I think it’s decent enough, I just couldn’t resist the cheap gag

Yeah, was torn between a couple of moments I remembered being funny and posting “none of them”

Was stunned by quite how lacklustre that was.

Gavlar! I want a curry! Dont mind if I do!

i can’t think of a specific bit but i only ever watched it at my ex’s parents house so i associate it very strongly with them. it was fine, better than watching like golf or football which is all her dad had on telly any other time

The bit where your man sings James Blunt.

Quite humorous how looking through the press, the socials, and WhatsApp groups this morning it seems to have been almost universally loved by the vast majority of the public across the board.

I wouldn’t piss on Corden if he was on fire, genuinely quite detest the bloke, but I have always got some pretty overt classist vibes about how this and certain other sitcoms are viewed. Never quite understood why we have to turn our noses up at things. It’s always been quite good really, hasn’t it?

I’ve never watched a minute of the actual shows but I’ve seen a hell of a lot of trailers for it and none of those have made me want to watch it.

I found the early series entertaining enough at the time - don’t know how I’d find them now but I expect there’d be some laughs to be had. Having grown up in South Wales, the Barry setting gave it added appeal & fun for me too.

Last night’s special was pretty much bereft of humour though: it was more of a lighthearted soap opera than a sitcom, trying to get as many characters paired off into a happy ending as it could. Not Bryn though, for some reason…

I think gavin and Stacey is very good. Way better than most sitcoms

Yeah I can’t stand Corden as a person but I think Gavin and Stacey is funny and well-written, and I enjoyed the finale. So many enjoyable characters/recurring bits (Dawn and Pete’s unhinged relationship always makes me laugh), it’s similar to Parks and Rec in that way I think

Bryn was completely evil in that episode.

I dont think theres a classist element. I think people do go ‘but James Corden’ when hes absolutely fine in it but for me, its just one of those BBC sitcoms like Bad Education, Rev, Fleabag, My Family etc which they try to push as absolutely classic stuff when its just so average

Think these boards are an outlier though, on Insta/Facebook/reddit etc people are unanimously loving it

‘Don’t tell him, Gavin!’

Was drinking a DIPA 8.5% and reading the latest edition of ‘the New Yorker’ whilst listening to some early Red House Painters, so I missed it unfortunately.

The bit where Bryn and Smithy are doing weights was good. Pretty much any bit where Bryn is trying to hang round with the younger lads actually.

It has. But these days you have to either love things or hate them.
