Balearic Islands advice thread

Anyone been on a family holiday in the Balearics, preferably Majorca, that they might have any advice on? Looking for a long weekend trip me + a 5 and 7 year old in the May Day weekend. Don’t mind a resorty place but would be nice if it wasn’t really concrete-y and grim. Looking for advice on which bits of the island(s) are laid back and have some kind of local vibe but still set up for tourists and kids.

Alcudia on Majorca might be a good shout, there’s a nice old town and it’s fairly laid-back but there’s lots of resort-type places and a handful of water parks for the little ones iirc

what about ibiza

@everyone

I really like Ibiza Town (Eivissa). We went pre-kids so a while ago and weren’t necessarily thinking of family stuff, but it was over Easter and so really quiet and chilled out. The clubs hadn’t opened at that point, so it was just locals and Easter parades.

The old town is very pretty, nice castle with views across the city and sea, nice beach within walking distance of the town (Figueretas).

Would happily go back.

Puerto pollensa is great (i’m actually going there next week), been going there for years. Not too touristy and loads of good paces to eat which the kids will like. Beaches are great and kept in really good nic, lots of nice places to go for walks or on yer bikes.
Also you’ve got the old town of pollensa near by which is gorgeous and also not too far away is alcudia which has a lovely old town as @waveyswirley mentioned.

I normally go out in may and it’s a great time as it’s not too busy yet.

I really like Ibiza, probably been a dozen times to various parts of it. Obviously has the reputation for all the clubbing and that but there’s loads of nice little resorts for a quiet holiday and as @woweezowee said, the main town is a nice place to have a wander round.

We went to a little resort called Cala Llonga a few times when I was a kid. Fairly quiet there but a few bars/restaurants/shops, decent beach. 10-15 minute to the town of Santa Eularia (think it’s the 3rd biggest town on the island, so plenty of stuff there) and about half an hour to Eivissa/Ibiza Town and there’s a little ferry/water taxi to both those places too.

Portinatx at the far north of the island is another nice quiet resort, 3 little beaches there, and a few places to eat and drink. Might be a little bit isolated though as it’s over the mountains and cut off from anywhere else.

Another place I’ve been to is, according to Google Maps, called Siesta that’s just across the river from Sta Eularia. 10-15 minute walk to the town, where there’s plenty of restaurants, shops and etc, got a nice walk along the sea front and up to the marina.

Yes, Santa Eularia and Siesta are both really nice. Love the walk along the promenade and taking a boat trip.

Hello. I am also going to Ibiza with the wife next month for 10 nights. 4 near Eivissa, 6 in Sant Antoni area. Plan is for a bit of raving (we’ve booked to see Calvin Harris at Ushuaia - wife’s choice - and i’d like to get another night time thing booked in) bit of daytime partying, bit of sundowner drinks and beats (thinking cafe del mar/mambo) but mostly chilling by the pool and the odd day trip. Any specific bits of advice people might have about things to definitely do, bits to avoid etc?

I am headed to Menorca, where I’ll spend two days in Mahón and five in Ciutadella. I’ve never been on holiday before where I largely sit and relax. It isn’t really “me” to do that but we thought we’d try it for the first time.

But so I don’t get too fidgety, has anyone been there that can recommend things to do and see? Happy to get buses around the island where available.

The main things to do in Menoca are basically in Mao and Ciutadella. Both places are really nice. I’d definitely recommend it for a holiday with young kids as the buses are easy to use and there’s good stuff like land trains and boat trips and things.

Thank you! Looks like we’re stopping in the right bits then. No kids but we do like a good land train (assuming they’re not exclusively a kid thing) so we’ll take a look at that.

So, we had a great time. We spent two days in Mahón and five in Ciutadella. I think that was the right balance. I could happily live in Ciutadella. Mahón was nice too but I felt like you’d run out of things to do pretty quickly. Our little hotel was lovely.

We stayed in a nice hotel in Ciutadella too but, even at 51, we felt like the youngest people there by some distance. For a short time I thought I was going to find this depressing (a lot of people of sun loungers with their eyes shut and mouths open) but quickly got my head round it. And it meant we had the pool to ourselves nearly all of the time.
