Neither souvlaki nor pygmalion hold up to s/t in terms of sound…a whole Slowdive remaster would be perfect and potentially more feasible now they’ve not been completely ditched by a label.
yeah, but they have better songwriting.
I don’t think the original releases have especially bad mastering.
Just play it louder? Or get an amp. It’s quite because bits not squashed and probs has quite a high dynamic range
Which is why you CRANK IT!!!
Even in terms of songwriting, S/T is better than pygmalion and arguably an equal of souvlaki
Going back to Kyuss, Always CRANK it but would be even more cranked with tweeks to the production. I’d like to hear Hüsker remastered but keep the originals available just in case it ruins the overall effect
If you can be arsed, you can create two new versions of the album by separately isolating and saving the L and R channels in Audacity to new files. Voila! The two mono mixes of Pure Phase, isolated for your listening pleasure.
S/t veers a little too close to some of Souvlaki’s melodies (and even lifting some of its own within the same album) and is a bit samey to really be especially noteworthy in terms of songwriting. It’s maybe better than Pygmalion in terms of songwriting, but that album’s going for an entirely different approach than either (with only s/t’s Falling Ashes being similar, but clearly inferior to Rutti, Miranda, Blue Skied, etc.)
Overall, I’m not sure s/t is better than any of their other albums in any way. Maybe a bit less lightweight than Just For a Day, I guess.
not a remaster, but it would be nice if Michael Gira would reissue his albums with their original tracklist/order and whatnot. I wonder how Soundtracks for the Blind will be butchered?
