Bris Funny Fest 2nd - 20th August 2017

Brisbane is set to be 50% funnier from 2 to 20 August when dozens of international and Australian comedians hit the stage for Bris Funny Fest - a fringe comedy festival with over 50 shows featuring everything from side-splitting stand-up to keytar serenades and from improvised mayhem to sketch comedy hijinks.

According to festival director Steven Morgan this year’s festival is a must-see for anyone who enjoys their comedy with a twist.

“This is the biggest year yet for Bris Funny Fest and it’s a cracker - we’ve got something for everyone. We’ve gathered a diverse range of comedians and they’re exploring every topic you could want to hear about - how to find or avoid love, Game of Thrones, motherhood, modern masculinity, how to know when you’re an international sex icon and why John Oxley was the mastermind behind Brisbane’s miserable qualities.”

Festival highlights include Brisbane’s own Lindsay Webb with his latest show The World’s Greatest Exaggerator fresh from a critically-acclaimed run at Adelaide Fringe Festival. There’s also Justin ‘Rusty’ White from New Zealand with his multi-award winning show I Learnt Something Once which saw him named ‘Best Comedian’ at the Christchurch Comedy Awards and ‘Best Male Comedian’ at the Frinch Awards.

Singaporean-born Ting Lim (Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide and Sydney fringe festivals) is an acclaimed comic, and she combines forces with Stephanie Tisdell, a proud Murri woman and multi-award winning comedian (Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival) for Token Ethnics, an exploration of what it takes to be an outsider.

Michael Connell’s You’re On a List explores life, liberty and paranoia and his recent credits include Melbourne International Comedy Festival, New Zealand International Comedy Festival and Melbourne Fringe Festival.

Marty Lappan has graced the stage with his laconic Aussie wit in London, Edinburgh and Melbourne in addition to performances on Hey Hey It’ s Saturday, The Russell Gilbert Show and Full Frontal. His latest show Crikey Bro! also features his comedy partner-in-crime Aaron Pratt, the gentle giant from Auckland whose clean comedy stylings have seen him gently woo audiences into guffaws across the USA, and open for Akmal Saleh and Fiona O’Loughlin.
