Can I be so rude as to tack on a non-Bruges Belgium question?
If you had 3-4 free hours in Antwerp on a Monday afternoon, what would you do? Beer and art related especially…
Admire the station
Cafe Kulminator is such a weird place, quite an experience. I recommend checking it out. I’ll put my full comment on this story later.
Closed Mondays sadly
oud arsenal for a proper old school bar
Also closed Mondays ![]()
Everywhere in Belgium is closed on Mondays

It’s free to go up MAS viewing platform.
Could walk out to Standard Pizza which is a bit out of the centre, also next door to Speciale Belge taproom.
Beer lovers bar opens at 4 which is by the station.
Could also check out the wooden escalators that lead to the tunnel under the river (there’s not much the other side…)
This was closed when I went met a few locals of the beer scene and they said it was the best place for beers but that the owners have the worst views and openly racist.
Oh wow, I had no idea about this bit
Me & a mate stumbled upon it, saw a bunch of Americans ring the doorbell to get in, eavesdropped on their conversation with Gandalf at the door, before they were eventually turned away. Then me & my mate decided to try the same thing, got asked something like “Do you drink to taste or for how it makes you feel?”, to which my mate was like “hmm, good question” before I interjected with “to taste!” and then he let us in. The place was like a hoarders dream / nightmare. Filthy, covered in dust, and with a menu like an argos catalogue. We had the “strongest beer in the world” (tasted like treacle, disgusting) and then left after a while because the couple who owned the place seemed to be quite upset that someone had actually come in.
Didn’t realise the racist bit though, that’s a shame, I withdraw my recommendation and fuck them both.
I couldn’t gauge to what level they were inferring to (obviously doesn’t make it acceptable at any level) . This was with people from Billies bottle shop, Uncharted Brewing and a few regulars.
Based on the whole vibe of the place, I’m not overly surprised tbh
I’d recommend either the Rubens House or the Museum Mayer van den Bergh - both fabulous collections of medieval art housed in beautifully preserved old townhouses. They are both fairly small and close to the city centre.
Almost missed the train to Antwerp because it was listed as Anvers which I assumed was a city in northern France!
Antwerpen
You twerpen
Since I’ve now made this the all-purpose Belgium thread I’m going to offer my flaming hot take on Brussels:
Fucking dodgy.
