who have you recently ticked off
who do you have plans to see soon
who do you hope you get a chance to see in the future
Boards of Canada would be nice
I’m actually getting a few this year - My Bloody Valentine, Unwound, Have a Nice Life and recently just caught Rival Schools.
Only been favourites the past couple of years but Chat Pile and Blood Incantation quickly became must see acts. Done one, got the other to come
I’d say Frank Ocean would be bucket list but also fully aware it could be the biggest let down of all time. I’d love to see Bjork to some kind of greatest hits set.
Oh, and Title Fight!
Recently ticked off GYBE (but actually left halfway through because they were dull).
I had Jesus Lizard on Saturday but can’t make it now, which is a real bummer.
I’d love to see Meshuggah again. Would also love to see Lankum (can’t make it to their show here sadly) and I hope that caroline come here on their next tour.
My bucket list is quite short-term
best entries in the last couple of years for me would be Los Camp, Richard Thompson and 65dos
none are at the very top of my fav acts lists, but 65dos were huge to me as a teenager, and LC the same in my 20s. Having skipped many chances to see them both in the past, felt like something I owed myself to finally get done. Neither gig was amazing but both very good, fun to hear some old favs but also liked that both were still out there making new stuff and getting new fans - not just trading on old glories
RT is a much more recent discovery, but Vincent Black Lightning has been an all-time song for my entire life - that combined with his age and status made me think it was pretty important to take the chance while I could. And he was excellent and made me wonder why I didn’t get obsessed with him 20 years ago
He wasn’t specifically on my bucket list so much as “anyone associated with Louis ville post hardcore / post rock” but David Grubbs was a big one this year
upcoming hopefully Neil Young as possibly the single most important artist to me that I haven’t caught yet
future (realistic) goals would be The Cure and Aphex. Both favourites and again both bolstered by missing them in the past so wanting to avoid too many regrets. Fingers crossed Robert makes this a possibility within the next year or so
this is why i take every opportunity i can get to see 65 and los camp, always great, occasionally transcendental
65dos have played so often within a 30 min walk of wherever I lived at the time, some truly great procrastination by me there
I got to see Nick Cave, Okkervil River and Craig Finn last year — all great
This year I’m finally seeing Bright Eyes, who’ve been near the top of my gig wishlist for years
Modest Mouse are my white whale, I’ve been a fan for about 20 years now and never caught them live
Artists I would love to see but the chances are very slim of it ever happening
Erykah Badu
Chat Pile
Pissed Jeans
Gary Wilson
Tom Waits (I’ve “seen” him before but I was stuck in the back row with a whopping big pillar blocking my view)
Recently saw The Jesus Lizard who I’d seen before but never thought it would happen again so I guess that counts
the first time i saw them was in torrential rain, the best time i saw them they just played one song for half an hour. good band
Got Have A Nice Life and Nine Inch Nails booked in from the “never seen before but have wanted to for years” category. The Cure also sit there, so will fork out when they next tour.
Plenty of bands I’d like to see but haven’t yet, but religiously and obsessively going to gigs for most of my teens and twenties (as well reunion and anniversary shows becoming a real thing in the last 5-10 years even below that festival headlining legacy act tier of band) means there aren’t many real bucket list acts left for me. Probably more if I was getting to chose the set list. Wouldn’t look twice at a Cursive show, for example, but if you told me it was just The Ugly Organ they’d be playing …
also very glad I got to see Pavement again in their re-reunion mode. Doesn’t count but since the first reunion was so by-the-numbers (though I was still glad to have gone) it was so nice getting to a more fun, loose version of them too
Not many left that are realistic. Ticked off Mr Bungle last year which was a big one for me. Portishead probably the biggest one left for me. Would like Curve to reform having actually been at a festival they were playing at but chose a different stage on the day…
Sufjan Stevens (chance would be a fine thing)
Joanna Newsom
Rilo Kiley (looking likely!!!)
i was sad for you about this but it was also weirdly funny. Shows how much things we build up in our heads don’t line up to reality sometimes
On reflection, really not too bothered surprisingly. Would really like to see quickspace again, such an enjoyable shambles, and could always go fro ligament one more time.
Almost as funny as Bruce Springsteen playing Santa Claus is Coming to Town when @Kallgeese saw him last summer (sorry Kallgeese).
i had second-hand rage over that
