Famous Prophets…holy cow
That bit when the piano section explodes into the scrambled melody from “My Boy” may be the best moment in Indie Rock of the 2010s. It’s already made me she’d tears once…seeing it live would be even bigger.

It is next level. Hard to believe that song is over sixteen minutes, it doesn’t feel like it.
I feel like I should get into this dude; I heard him compared to early Modest Mouse (which sets the high-quality alert sounds going) / big fan of a lot of yr current lo-fi-ish American indie people (Mitski, Japanese Brekkie, etc).
Huge Bandcamp back catalogues, man
Don’t get the modest mouse comparison tbh. Most people I’ve played it to say it sounds a bit like early Strokes, and there’s some truth to that I think.
Whatever they sound like both Teens of Denial and re-recorded Twin Fantasy are possibly two of the best “indie” rock albums made this decade
If I’m near a record shop and the weather feels right (for some reason, I feel like a sunny day would be appropriate? I’m a strange guy), I might pick up the new-slash-old-'un
I hope you enjoy it!
Who are you playing this to? I think their almost polar opposites, at least under the guitar music umbrella.
Modest Mouse is more understandable…but still MM are more angry/muscular/chaotic.
The best comparison (which in itself isn’t all that helpful) I can make is the overwrought crescendos of The Antlers (especially Hospice) by the way of lo-fi 90s indie rock bands like GBV/Pavement.
I mean obviously in tone and the lyric subject matter they’re polar opposite side but in terms of the music, instrumentation and vocal delivery they’re very much lo-if scuzzy American rock in a way that’s much more similar to the Strokes then modest Mouse (especially on tracks like Beach Life, Cute Thing, Fill In The Blank, etc.)
Not that I think that either comparison is particularly helpful - they’re very much their own thing. But cannot hear modest Mouse at all in them
And Pavement is not a bad shout, actually
Been really enjoying this release, as well as How to Leave Town, and some of the teens of style stuff. Can’t say I’m too keen on Denial though. Just annoyed I’ve known about them for years and never listened!
I’d be very surprised if there isn’t another album in the can. It’ll all come down to Matador when we get it, I know he sat on Teens of Denial for quite a while and obviously this has been ready to go for ages too. Wouldn’t mind more tunes in the vein of War Is Coming.
Reckon there’s a new album coming out later this year and this is being used to bump his profile a bit in anticipation of that
Apparently it might be called ‘Wave Goodbye To The Jets’.
Late as usual, but I’ve listened to this 4 times since Saturday.
Really, really good.
My 3 highlights -
The line “Everybody is swinging their hips, everybody is giving the waitresses tips” on Bodys is just such a cheery lyric. Love it.
The loopy keyboard in High To Death is just beautiful!
And…I. Don’t.Want.To.Go.INSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNEEEEEEE
Still listening to this, its reallllllly great
Same here. I would be surprised if anything tops this as my aoty. For the people moaning that Weezer turned to shit after the second album, this is the band for you.
Saw this on the front page, thought it was the social board topic I’ve been waiting all these years for. Imagine my disappointment.
We’re young!
We’re thin! (Most of us)
We’re alive … (Most of us)
Love that part from Bodys so much.
