Very distinct production on that record, might be what sets it apart?
It is beautiful though. Imagine writing a song like Catherine Wheels

I would lump ‘She Goes On’ from Woodface in with the loveliness of that album
I saw Neil Finn touring Try Whistling This in these circumstances. Did a load of Crowded House over that hour and is one of my fave live music memories
Oh look, 3 10/10 songs ![]()
I feel like it has a bit of a darker tone, both thematically/lyrically and musically which is definitely more my vibe.
really like Neil Finn down the years, and there’s always going to be sentimental attachment to them as I used to go and see them with my mum when they would come to Manchester, DDIH was played at her funeral (don’t worry I won’t cry if someone says they hate them or that song, you can’t really destroy memories like that). they ennoble places like Radio 2 with their gentle craftsmanship and refusal to sound like wet lettuce.
I’d forgotten Liam Finn was a thing and recently discovered a new album is on the way. Or maybe it exists already?
He’s announced ‘Hyperverse’, which comes out on 13 June and has this cover:
But it looks like this already exists as an album that came out on 17 April, but called The Howl and with the same tracks in near-reverse order. Also it has a different cover:
And, just to keep it interesting, the vinyl release of Hyperverse comes with two extra tracks within a completely different track order:
A1. Just Want You To Be So Happy
A2. The Howl
A3. Suspicious
A4. Purple Dress
A5. Living Daylights
B1. Spiraling
B2. Love In Disguise
B3. Unleash Your Animal
B4. Con Man
B5. Old Man Spider
The first/last/second track is the original version of a song on Crowded House’s recent album. Some of the others seem to have been released as an EP over seven months ago, which passed me by completely.
Anyway, I like Liam Finn and am glad there’s a combination of new tracks to listen to.
