I only knew one of my grandfathers, and he didn’t wear a hat
The one that did wear a hat was my great grandad
Can’t really remember my mums dad ever even leaving the house and he died when I was a small kid. My dads dad probably wore a sun hat every now and again but he had quite a bouffant head of hair to the last so day to day wasn’t an option.
Never knew one grandad, so can’t say. Other grandad regularly wore a white bucket hat (he lived in Portugal, it kept the sun off). It was pretty iconic for him, at his memorial service we had one on the table as a memento.

Other one died before I was born
They both died the year I was born but from the photos I’ve seen they wore hats (the Islamic prayer hats)
One died in a farming accident when my dad was 6, so I don’t know but what old farmer in their right mind isn’t wearing a hat in the 1950s or before? My my mum’s dad used to wear a flat cap.

Yeah, the guy would wear a flat-cap when out and about and a hard hat at work. However, he would ensure his hat was removed in church but my Gran had to pop a hat on in there despite being hatless the rest of the time.
never knew my dad’s dad. dad’s stepdad was a flat cap guy. mum’s dad wore a kind of trilby but without the connotations of incels at a PUA class that probably gives off in 2025.
