DiS Users' April 2020 Album Of The Month

The highs aren’t as good as last month but could easily do a top 10 again for April, some absolutely great stuff. Also the fact that my top 5 might feature none of the albums mentioned so far is good for diversity!

I hadn’t heard of him before but it really took me by surprise!

Steve Hadfield - Unreality.
Dawnwalker - Crestfallen
Sugar Horse - Drugs
Midwife (but only because there’s nothing else I want to vote for)

Sugar Horse - Drugs
Elephant Tree - Habits
Enter Shikari - Nothing Is True
Elder - Omens
Local H - Lifers

  1. Fiona Apple - Fetch the Bolt Cutters
  2. Shabazz Palaces - Don of Diamond Dreams
  3. NNAMDI - Brat
  4. Plone - Puzzlewood
  5. KeiyaA - Forever, Ya Girl
  6. Thundercat- It Is What It Is

Classy month.

Soela - Genuine Silk
Fiona Apple - Fetch the Bolt Cutters
Yaeji - What We Drew
Andrea - Ritorno
DJ Python - Mas Able

Clear top 5 for me this month, though the order is a little arbitrary as they are all roughly on a level. BC Camplight, Moor Jewelry, Clarice Jensen, Quelle Chris and Yves Tumor also enjoyed to some extent.

Updating this because I’ve only just listened to the Nathan Fake album and it is absolutely stunning. No idea how it has gone so under the radar:

  1. The Strokes - The New Abnormal
  2. Nathan Fake - Blizzards
  3. Shabazz Palaces - The Don of Diamond Dreams
  4. Yves Tumor - Heaven to a Tortured Mind

Couple of big disappointments: loved the Flat Worms debut by this was just a bit… Flat. Found the Hamilton Leithauser a bit dull

The Do Nothing EP is brilliant. Hadn’t heard of them before this EP. A mix between stripped back The Fall meets Art Brut, sort of, but it’s great.

  1. Fiona Apple by a long way.
  2. Anna Burch - If you’re dreaming
  3. Yves Tumour - Heaven to a Tortured Mind
  4. Thundercat

It really is. LeBron James might be my favourite track of the year so far. Like the Art Brut comparison - there are definitely a few influences at play.

Think I mentioned in another thread that to me the lead singer has a bit of a James Murphy style to him, and musically I think there are some early Strokes similarities. Great fun - am excited for an album when it arrives

Haven’t really listened to much this month?

  1. Fiona Apple - FTB
  2. Yves Tumor
  3. Rina Sawayama
  4. Dawnwalker

Very good month

  1. Hamilton Leithauser - The Loves of Your Life
  2. Oranssi Pazuzu - Mestarin Kynsi
  3. Sugar Horse - Drugs
  4. Other Lives - For Their Love
  5. Martin Grech - Hush Mortal Core

  5. Lucinda Williams - Good Souls Better Angels
  1. Brendan Benson -Dear Life
  2. The Lovely Eggs - I Am Moron
  3. The Mountain Goats - Song for Pierre Chuvin

The Brendan Benson Album is a return back to his more off kilter power pop . After a few albums of going Alt Country that I didn’t really care for.

I Am Moron is the second lovely eggs album produced by David Friedman. The first This is Eggland was good but this goes a step further .

Songs for Pierre Chuvin is TMG dusting of the old Panasonic boombox. First TMG boombox album.since 2002.
