VOTE FOR YOUR TOP FIVE ALBUMS!!
Welcome to the longest running monthly episodic thread in the world, ever! This thread has been going since 2013. I need new hobbies. ![]()
Vote for your favourite five albums. Make your selections clear please as it makes tallying up the scores easier. If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I’ll take the first five mentioned as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. No joint positions please. Sorry to be a pedant.
Your album of the month will get five points, 2nd placed album four points, 3rd placed album three points, 4th placed album two points and 5th one point. If you name only one album I’ll give that five points. If you name two albums I’ll score them with five and four points etc. You get the message.
A very good month for live music than new releases for me. Damon and Naomi with Stewart Lee was great fun. A sublime evening at Cafe Oto with some brilliant guest spots including Laetitia Sadier, Gina Birch and Mark Webber. The first time I saw both Stereolab and Pulp was at Brixton in December 95 when the former supported the latter. I had a nice chat with Naomi whilst buying a Galaxie t-shirt from her. A brilliant evening.
I saw Dry Cleaning at Rough Trade East with my girlfriend and we had a great time there. I’ve seen Dry Cleaning four time live now and they remain a brilliant live act and a hell of a tight band. I had a very quick chat with Florence Shaw at the signing about Sprechgesang. That’s a term I didn’t was a thing nor existed before hearing a piece on the radio about it a week before their Rough Trade show where Shaw herself was a guest.
First time seeing Comet Gain this side of covid who are always fun. We also saw Fightmilk supported by Darren Hayman’s band; great time.
My choices:
1. Dry Cleaning - Secret Love
2. Courtney Marie Andrews - Valentine
3. Tessa Rose Jackson - The Lighthouse
4. Peaer - Doppelgänger
5. Jenny on Holiday - Quicksand Heart
The new Dry Cleaning is great. A slightly different pace and style of album and it works for me. I’ve generally listened to Dry Cleaning on shuffle than specific albums/EPs and have enjoyed both the new album on its own and new songs intermingled with their older tracks. I wouldn’t describe Dry Cleaning songs from their previous albums that I love necessarily as beautiful but would use that to describe new songs like Joy and Let Me Grow And See The Fruit as such. Love the album.
The new Courtney Marie Andrews album is brilliant. I saw her live for a few songs several years ago and really loved this one.
Tessa Rose Jackson’s album is a lovely soothing album.
I kind of liked Peaer and thought Jenny on Holiday was ok but not that good. That’s all that I heard this month.
Always a lot of great recommendations from you guys about albums that I’ve missed or overlooked. Not sure what’s out tomorrow. I’ll see what you guys are listening to.
Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 8th February and so you’ll have over a week to listen to tomorrow’s releases if there’s anything out before choosing.
Vote now!! (Or later in the week) but make your choices clear please.
