DiS Users' July 2025 Album Of The Month

VOTE FOR YOUR TOP FIVE ALBUMS!!

Vote for your favourite five albums. Make your selections clear please as it makes tallying up the scores easier. If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I’ll take the first five mentioned as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. No joint positions please. Sorry to be a pedant.

Your album of the month will get five points, 2nd placed album four points, 3rd placed album three points, 4th placed album two points and 5th one point. If you name only one album I’ll give that five points. If you name two albums I’ll score them with five and four points etc. You get the message.

My choices:

1. Poor Creature - All Smiles Tonight

2. NODEGA - Rot In Helvetica

3. Gwenno - Utopia

I’ve really only heard around three albums this month. I accidentally came across Poor Creature as they were playing Rough Trade East and I was just scrolling to see if there was anything on that evening. The album is a thing of beauty. One of the band members is in Lankum who never clicked with me but this album definitely did. Apparently the Rough Trade show was their first as a band outside Ireland and I hope they’re back soon. A brilliant folk album.

BODEGA have a new mini album out under the name of NODEGA. It’s the usual big fun pop rock. Not sure if the name change meant that the new album didn’t pop up on whatever notification things people use here but I couldn’t see many mentions of this release. I’m looking forward to their gig next week.

The new Gwenno album is ok. Not as good as her previous two especially Le Kov. She was fun live a few weeks ago and we got the cheese song, Eus Keus, which is always a Cornish language crowd pleaser.

Always a lot of great recommendations from you guys about albums that I’ve missed or overlooked. Not sure what’s out tomorrow apart from Indigo De Souza. I’ll see what you guys are listening to.

Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 3rd August and so you’ll have over a week to listen to tomorrow’s releases if there’s anything out before choosing.

Vote now!! (Or later in the week) but make your choices clear please.

Quite a quiet month for me, but top 3 still pretty magic. Jim Legaxcy album is extraordinary in that I keep thinking I’m about to hate everything about it, yet keep finding it mesmerising.

1: Jim Legxacy: Black British Music (2025)
2: $ilkmoney: Who Waters The Wilting Giving Tree
3: Rroxymore: Juggling Dualities
4: Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist: Alfredo 2
5: Giant Claw: Decadent Stress Chamber

Bubbling under/need more time with:

Discombobulated listening this month. All down to fun holiday times. May edit later if I have time to give my bubbling unders a solid listen.

Also really liked the handful of songs I have listened to from all these but haven’t spent enough time to assess the albums as a whole:

Blankenberge, GOON, Vines, Galore, Panic Shack, Billie Marten, Wet Leg, Golomb, Sourmilk, Bleach Lab, Cory Hanson

Liked too much this month, hard to find time to get through it all.

Still need to vote but if the description below sounds remotely intriguing to you, you need to listen to this immediately. It’s so good. It feels like a new twist on desert rock that’s fully formed right out of the gate.

Lots of Burning Brides’esque riffs in there too.
