I don’t think I’ve heard any Squirrel Flower since her gig in January 2020. Gave it a listen really just to familiarise myself with her stuff again. Wasn’t expecting an album this damn strong. Brilliant stuff. Usually I’d get a ticket for her upcoming show but she’s only playing as part of that Pitchfork one day multi venue festival thing. Can’t be bothered with that pricey ticket and the rest of the bill isn’t too much of a pull. Wouldn’t mind seeing Porridge Radio but presume that’ll be at EartH Hall which isn’t a favourite of mine. Hope to catch her soon on a stand alone gig of her’s.
Liking the new Metric album a lot which as the title implies is an accompanying album to their release last year. Some great tracks and the acoustic show that Emily and Jimmy did as part of this release will be remembered by me for a long time.
Emma Anderson’s debut is pretty good. Very Spooky-esque stuff. Pip Blom’s new one is fun too. Thought it was ok but got much better after seeing them live a few days ago.
Always a lot of great recommendations from you guys about albums that I’ve missed or overlooked.
Please forgive any shameless bumps of this thread during the week. I’ll keep this thread open until Sunday 5th November and so you’ll have over a week to listen to tomorrow’s releases if there’s anything out before choosing.

@moderators could you add an aotm tag to this thread and the others in this series if possible? Rememeber someone doing a clean-up of the weekly release threads with the newmusicfriday tag (might not even have been a moderator, think some users with legacy trust levels have this access too).
@BMS1 when you make threads all you would need to do to tag them is type “aotm” in the optional tags box and click the little grey rectangle.
I know I’d find this handy - quite often find myself looking back to these threads to see what I posted for a given month or over a given year. People would be able to bring up all of the threads in a quick search this way - see example below for the hgatr tag

I searched “album of the month” in the thread title and then applied the tag to everything that it found, not sure why it missed 2018 but I’ll fix that!

I’ve increased my use of tags in the last couple of months so handy to have a notifications pop up when a thread get started. Particularly with the weekly/monthly ones.
Another very strong month. I thought the top three were particularly good. Some great moments on the Lost Girls album too.
