not a pure hate thread but what were you excited for this year that just left you a bit cold or underwhelmed
Charli XCX - Brat. Don’t really get it
loved the last Porridge Radio album, raw and full of passion and hooks - thought it was very underrated
new one just felt very restrained in comparison and a bit samey. I think there’s layers there but just wasn’t enough on first listens to inspire me to go back to it much
Sophie (it’s not that it is good or what it had to be, its just not what I wanted)
Amen Dunes - Death Joke
Jawnino - 40
Diiv
St Vincent (not disappointed just that that album of the month and I wasn’t as taken by it)
Beyonce
Dua Lipa
Apart from Brat it has definitely felt like the year of disappointing big pop albums
St Vincent
English Teacher
Dina Ogon
La Luz
The The
FLO
Mannequin Pussy
Tortured Poets Department. What a fucking snooze.
Think the only one that truly disappointed me was Owen - The Falls of Sioux. A few decent songs but a real drop from The Avalanche imo
Oh yeah this wasn’t very good at all.
Finally go round to listening to the new Katy J Pearson album the other day right after revisiting the first two and found it very flat and unmemorable in comparison
I liked it, but wanted to like it more
Really, viscerally dislike that whole spoken-singing stuff that’s all the rage these days.
Think High Vis and Drug Church were both in prime position to release absolute game changers but released solid yet unspectacular ones
I feel similar about the new Touché Amore. Need to give it more time I think
Oh yeah agreed - also I really struggle with the sound is his vocals on that
The Cure’s latest one. Sorry, just don’t get what’s good about it at all.
It sounds a bit like Disintegration and people are desperate to relive their past
Bright Eyes
I don’t think it does sound like Disintegration particularly though. It’s nowhere near as good.
the songs and the singing and the melodies and the vibes
not much else though tbf
I didn’t get those on the copy I had ![]()
