Edinburgh Festivals 2023

Just booked my first glut of tickets for next Wednesday (all freebies via The Scotsman woo!). Doing a comedy night of Chloe Petts, Patti Harrison and Leila Navabi.

Then have a bunch of shows to review over the weekend and will probs try and catch some new writing at the Traverse (keen to see Lie Low).

Also booked a ticket for Ania Magliano later in the month as she was my fav last year and her run is almost sold out already.

Anyone else festivalin’ this year? Any recs?

To replicate exactly my post in your thread from last year … booked in to see Stewart Lee. Quelle surprise

All my book fest favs are sold out sadly but film fest looking very good, and got a strong comedy shortlist to consider (heavy on the Taskmaster contestants)

Yes! I missed her last year but heard great things, keen to see her this year. Was gonna tag you as i think you mentioned her before.

Booked Eliza, and managed to nab a relisted Colson ticket

Can confirm I enjoyed her in Belfast recently despite the disappointingly small crowd (I think she got a better turnout for a comedy club appearance a couple of weeks later that I didn’t go to)

Regretted not going last year/leaving it too late to get organised so was determined to go this year. But so many of the comedians I wanted to see have played Belfast this year or are playing soon, which killed my momentum a bit. Might check on the affordability of it at this stage for my week off in a couple of weeks.

My partner and I are heading to Edinburgh for a few days in the middle of the month. Currently got tickets to see Zoe Coombs Marr and Daniel Kitson, and definitely need to spend some time working out who else to see while we’re there.

Ahhhh left it too late this year, so I’ve set a reminder for February next year that just says “Fringe accommodation?”. Was looking at going up for a day but the last train back to Newcastle is at 8pm!

Anyway, I saw Sam Lake doing his show here the other night (it is the Newcastle Fringe at the moment) and I thought he was really funny. He’s at Monkey Barrel and that is definitely the right place for him.

I also watched Sooz Kempner do a preview on twitch last night and while it is very much more of the same (nostalgia, multimedia, superb off-the-cuff jokes) I still think she’s very good at doing exactly that.

and what about last bus!

Pls no

(I have motion sickness and I think that would go badly after a typical Fringe day)

Going to peruse this thread for recommendations later. I’m at the fringe Sun 6th - Fri 11th. Got a few bits and bobs booked but need to pack out the schedule for Sunday, Thursday and Friday. I’m actually going to work from my work’s Edinburgh office Mon/Tues/Weds as I don’t actually have enough annual leave for this trip - but figured I could still enjoy the evenings!

Can someone go watch this as some sort of apology for me completely derailing one of his sets last year. Thanks

This guys show was the best i saw last year, this is a new show.

Fucking love Paul Currie, both as a comedian and as a human being

I need to go and see him more often but I’m always afraid of the potential audience participation

Going to this tonight as my first show

Then this booked in for the Friday preview - very sold out later in the run, but there’s a few slots this weekend and end of next week
