Elden Ring (Part 2)

Erm… No.

Do tell.

you missed a whole ass boss my guy

invisible wall

one of the best bosses too

Ooooooh.

I should go back some time.

Still a dead end though after that presumably?

Well yeah, after beating the boss it’s a dead end. But if you know how to finish the DLC then all roads are essentially dead ends except the ones that lead to the final boss

Yeah I think that’s one of the things I didn’t like about it…

Is the boss you’re referring to the flaming eyeball guy? I found him, I beat him and then… Nothing? No bell to ring that opens up something new, no item to use that’ll make my character stronger? Just… Nothing. I know some people will say that a good boss battle is its own reward but that’s not how I operate.

Can you give an example of something that any of the base games bosses gives you to make you stronger apart from runes?

Weapons
Armour
Great Runes
Rune Arcs
Talismans
Extra Talisman Pouches

Besides which, in the base game killing a boss gives you enough runes to level up, often multiple times and your character gets stronger. By the dlc your character is already high level and the levels are superceded by the dlc leveling items, can’t remember what they’re called you also get them for your summon things, if you’d received one/some of them for killing eyeball kid then there would be a tangible reward, but no.

I’ll meet you on everything except armor and weapons, as those can be bought from Enia after most of the DLC bosses. I guess I value the feeling of beating a boss like you said earlier.

I guess I just like to feel rewarded in some more tangible way. One of the things the base game does so well.

You have beaten this boss! Hooray! And now…

a) a new path is open to you!
b) you can make your character stronger by levelling up!
c) you have acquired some weapon, artifact or upgrade (e.g. killing the twins in crumbletown gives you that super-useful ball bearing)!
d) you have acquired some kind of quest item (e.g. something that will let you interact with an NPC 30 hours later).

often it’s a combination of several of the above. With Eyeball kid it’s…none. You sneaked through the dark forest, you fought your way through the manor, you killed a tough boss and… yeah that’s your lot.

One of the main reasons I much preferred the base game to the DLC.

I was a bit nonplussed by the manse. It didn’t feel all that developed to me, or maybe underutilised is the word. It was a cool setting and there could’ve been more lore to it. Just felt a bit barren over all.

Started playing OG Elden Ring again this week. Had bursts of playing it a bit (mostly grinding runes and trying to find the bits of the map to push back the fog of war) but really want to get into it this time. Just started my first encounter with Margit. Looking forward to having my arse handed to me for a while whilst I git gud

One thing i dont like is how bosses just drop loot as soon as they die. Kinda fair enough if its something they were actually using in the fight. Otherwise, let me go to a little back room and open a treasure chest, or have the grafted greatsword be like stuck in a tree or something. A bit of ceremony for the bigger weapon drops. Maybe im too zelda-pilled idk.

I wonder how it’s done. It feels like their first big flop? But perhaps it’s sold trillions and I’m just not on the right platforms to know

3.5 million at least in the first week I guess.

Obv aint gonna be Elden Ring numbers but doesnt seem so bad for a spinoff.

Very decent

oh goodie they’ve started releasing even harder versions of the nightreign bosses

40 minute run back for the entire party to get one shot by a new AoE. now this is soulsing!

apparently nightreign player base has fallen by almost 50%. sadge, though it has totally run out of content and they keep releasing and unreleasing the same bosses which is weird.

thought i’d go back to the base game and do some co-op but that seems absolutely dead too. :sob: think elden ring is dead at last. oh well, was a nice few years!

I’m still playing randomiser. The modding community is pretty alive but not sure that counts
