England thread for the men's football World Cup 26

It might be a little late in the day, just over 24 hours before they kick off against Croatia, but I think now is the time to splinter before the England detractors/agnostics get too riled up by England Chat.

Let’s hear your tournament predictions (for England) in first posts please. I think they’ll get to the final and lose, which I don’t really want, I’d rather glorious semi final failure, tbh.

The talking point today is evidently Livramento going home. Really sad for him but surely he’ll have another opportunity. Chlaobah is a nice versatile replacement but now it’s all kind of on Reece James for attacking thrust. Bit concerned

Other than knowing they won’t win it, I have absolutely no idea. Could get to the final, could fuck it in the group stages, could be anything in between. Genuinely would enjoy the World Cup a lot more if England never competed in it.

frankly the haters and losers should have their own thread to hate and also lose in and we can be lionhearted in the main thread

I remember enjoying Euro 2008 but I think if it carried on for any longer (like in Italy), then I think my interest would wain slightly.

This isn’t just about the haters, it’s about having a dedicated space to celebrate the glorious underdog story of England searching to end a 60 year dry spell.

Those threads are fast paced too, here we can just lounge about with our opinions, discussing the merits of Konsa over Guehi

My main wish for the tournament is that we don’t stink the place out again. The only thing that will overshadow that would be winning it. Euro 2024 was, the first half against the Netherlands aside, just a constant tough watch.

Recently Bellingham said he didn’t really enjoy his overhead kick because really we were on the brink of an embarrassing loss that shouldn’t have happened, and I felt like that watching it too

Really strong start on Friday, can’t see them losing to Ireland today.

Think you’ll lose your heeds and get really optimistic after 2-1 win against Croatia,.probably whack Ghana too. Wobble against Panama though and you end up going out in the first knockouts.

I think it all goes into the pot of reasons.

He’s not had a good season, has he. I also think Tuchel picks his squad in more of a “club football” way than recent predecessors. By that I mean he has a very distinct idea for what he wants his right-back to do, and would rather pick a “lower level” replica than shoehorn in a talented anomaly. And, although I do really like Trent, I like that approach because it suggests a more deliberate plan/style of play than what we’re used to.

We’ll win the group, beat Dr Congo in the second round then Mexico at the Azteca at altitude (at 1am UK time) will be the big sliding doors moment that decides whether we go on to win it or, well, obviously not if we lose.

Think my lion hearted lads have a good chance of making the semis if they top the group, given that Mexico and Brazil haven’t looked that good, yet.

Not convinced that Gordon/Rashford/Madueke/Saka are in enough form to see off one of the big boys but you’d fancy England against most sides except France (or Germany…).

The squad isn’t deep enough for the heat if we stink a couple of games out and have to actually try (or go to extra time) in the first 4 or 5.

3rd place for me, Clive.

Sad that it’s come to this, isn’t it.
