I hope it doesn’t reflect a concern of a lack of acceptance if not demonstrably a beard stroking middle aged man…
she’s mostly shoegaze/slowcore though.
for those not in the know: Klara Lewis is Graham Lewis of Wire’s daughter.
Hard to say really, could just be a way of maintaining a divide, between someones public/professional life and their private life.
Suppose it’s better than “doing a Sia” and wanting to stay anonymous while dancing on Graham Norton with your back to the audience and your hair over your eyes.
Yeah or just an idea of the music being anonymous or some other artistic decision. Think it’s a jump to presume it’s marketing. Although wouldn’t write it off.
Yeah I didn’t think it was strictly ambient though I thought it might be of interest to the OP.
I listened to Breadwoman & Other Tales by Anna Holmer the other day. Unlike anything I’ve heard before
just listening to the new album properly. Enjoying it! Bound to be all over the EOY lists what with Buchla having just died.
Seconding Colleen, last year’s Captain of None was great, bit more experimental pop than ambient, worth checking out though:
Since you posted this I’ve listened to the album a couple of times start to finish, I like it a lot. Thanks!
I love that album. Sounds like absolutely nothing else.
Agreed, though I’ve shied away from listening to it in front of anyone else yet.
She was on the “Related Artists” list of Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith on Spotify…bit of a tenuous link if you ask me but EARS from this year is another solid album. Listened to her collaboration with Suzanne Ciani a few times and that intrigued me. The tracks build very slowly but they sound so deep and kaleidoscopic once you’re in there. Not an album you can rush through
Motion Sickness of Time Travel has some new stuff coming out. Clips sounds really nice:
Came here to post about her too https://motionsicknessoftimetravel.bandcamp.com
I’ve really been enjoying her stuff actually. Although her bandcamp bio is… I dunno, like something out of Portlandia?
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith’s formative years were spent communing with nature on Orcas Island in the northwest region of Washington state, a place she describes as “one of the most magical and peaceful places I have ever been.”
haha
Kate Carr - I had myself a nuclear spring
Basically field recordings with a minimal amount of instrumentation, perfect to chill out to at the end of a shitty day.
