Fontaines D.C

Well, yes. It’s a label directive to shift first week sales.

I believe that’s the Banquet model for these Pryzm gigs and why they get such big names coming through - some agreements with labels etc. Someone attached to the venue mentioned if you sell out Kingston Pryzm and everyone buys a ticket then you’re around 1000-1500 additional sales. The average sale of a top 40 album is around 4000 apparently.

A few of these around the country and you’ve bumped your numbers significantly. As an example, Mogwai sold c7000 albums to get to number 1. You can cover nearly half of that with a couple of Pryzm shows.

Seems like Crywank should have pursued this strategy.

I imagine they stumped up a fair bit to get these gigs. You can only assume such as Resident and Rough Trade would have been in for them too.

Good point - not sure on the upfront commercials. Someone mentioned it’s more record labels organising them than the band itself but who knows.

Caught up on these this morning and I feel like having seen a couple of performances of Starburster, there’s just something that falls a bit flat when they play it live. Which is a shame because I love the recording of the song, so I don’t know if there’s something in the production of the single that they’re missing live, I can’t put my finger on what it is. Whereas Favourite sounds great.

Never thought I’d like a Fontaines DC song, even less so as much as I do this new one. Bit Go-Betweens, bit The Cure, bit C86/Sara Records-y. Lovely Summery goodness.

Starbuster is still reassuringly shite tho

big parts of Skinty Fia are like that, if that tempts you back at all …

Got very excited by the intro and first verse of Favourite but the chorus is underwhelming nothingness.

I can’t unhear it…

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever. That’s who it sounds like (rather a lot).

Watched their Glasto set and it reminded me what a brilliant track this is

Spot on

Heard that one that sounds like Kasabian at a club last night and it sounds loads better played loud like that.

Good song.

Anyone else think Favorite sounds like The Wedding Present? Even the lyrics content sounds like something Gedge would write.

So this is a fun thing that’s emerged over the weekend. In the Starburster video there’s a bit at 3:20 where Grian wanders into a room with a woman dancing.

The woman, it transpires (and not even her stans apparently recognised her, though I can’t imagine there was a great fanbase crossover) is Jade, ex of Little Mix. Now, she’s just released her debut single, with a video by the same director (Aube Perrie), and who’s that at 2:28?

It looks like Grian just knocked around Jade’s video shoot for an afternoon. going by the end of the Starburster video.
