Clonmel had a Toymaster that sold a lot of GW stuff, mostly Warhammer and 40K.
Cork has a GW along with a few other hobby shops that stock a lot of GW products. We used to travel down to pick up some more obscure stuff here.

Strongly object
Had an ork army, and made my own chaos space marines chapter. Am not middle class, although divorced parents you could play off against each other for pocket money definitely helped.
GW were just years ahead of the rest of the rest of the high street in offering an ~experience~ to customers beyond just shopping (insert jokes about nerds here). Used to love rocking up and watching people play.
Should probably look into selling it all, by my painting skills were terrible and that would probably count against it…
I hope I wrote that when I was half asleep.
ooh battlefleet gothic. that looked mint an all
Don’t want to spoil this joke but can this be real? To the outside observer, the guy with a box full of little men that he’s painted himself is just objectively better than the guy with a load of little pictures that somebody else painted that he’s stuffed into plastic wallets to stop them getting drooled on.
NB Had a pile of assorted miniatures, particularly the Judge Dredd / 2000AD ones, but never got drawn into Warhammer and stopped getting White Dwarf when it went GW exclusive.

got into it for a bit, but was put off by the price of the models and the awful people who worked in the shops
actually got more into the supplementary books they had. remember having a few on that dwarf nutter who kept trying to get killed by was never successful.
hey give them a break, they were addicted to middle-class heroin
smelled like it too
Probably wouldn’t have been able to resist buying the first few issues of that Warhammer partwork that came out recently if it was in the shops here. Would then have spent one whole evening making a total arse of painting one space marine and never touched it again.
Felix and Goretrek or something?
This was right when I was into it! Loved the Inquisitor stuff, but never got any.
Started with Imperpial Guard because it was cheapest to buy a bunch of basic guardsmen. Moved on to Space Marines, invented my own sub-Chapter of the Dark Angels called the Angels of Silence with Green / Silver armour because I am awesome.
It’s nerdy poker vs nerdy painted dollies.
I reckon putting cards in those little plastic sleeves would feel very satisfying
It really, really is.
Unless they’re shit sleeves. Fuck off UltraPro. Dragon Shields for life!!
Hey man, at least we’re not bronies. We’ll always have that.
…right?
